Episode 346: Fighting With My Family

Hello everyone, and welcome to our week in geek. We bring you a truncated sleep episode this week, and since the news cycle was slow, this is a good thing.

First up is our streaming review of Fighting With My Family. Florence Pugh plays WWE Superstar Paige in this quirky comedy focusing on how she broke into WWE and how her family helped her along the way. We both recommend this movie, even if you aren't a wrestling fan.

Next week we're queuing up Marriage Story on Netflix for our next streaming review.

Moving over to the nerd news, we discuss if Anthem can be saved, some behind the scenes photos of the new Batsuit, and we learn once again that size matters, as Final Fantasy 7 Remake clocks in at over 100gb!

Closing the show out is this weeks podquestion, and we want to know, what video game franchise would you like to see get its own theme park.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ or HBOgo. Please send your suggestions to us using any of the means below.

Bats most anticipated games of 2020

2020 marks a transition year in terms of gaming. With the promise of new consoles from Microsoft and Sony, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4s are using 2020 to unveil some of the most anticipated games in recent memory. I wanted to bring you my list of games I can't wait to play in 2020.

1. The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)

In 2013 Naughty Dog followed up their Uncharted trilogy with what many consider to be the game of the generation, myself include, The Last of Us. 7 years later, players take control of Ellie this time around in an adventure that promises to push the PS4 to its limits while delivering story telling that only Naughty Dog can provide.

 2. Cyberpunk 2077

After putting themselves on the map with the Witcher series, developer CD Projekt Red set their sights on a dystopian future where machine and man are fused.

3. Final Fantasy 7 Remake

When word first hit that developer SquareEnix were going to remake their beloved RPG Final Fantasy 7, opinions varied. After being in development for what seemed like forever, the first trailer was released and the hype train was moving along, full steam ahead.

4. Doom Eternal

Demons. Guns. Death. By now you know what to expect from a Doom game, and this looks no different

5. Gears Tactics

I love tactic based games, and adding the ridiculousness for the Gears of War franchise has me excited to give this a go

 6. Ghost of Tsushima

Infamous developer Sucker Punch sets their sights on feudal Japan it what looks to be a beautiful new IP

Episode 345: Midsommar

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in geek!

The week blew by us so fast that we missed the blue blur as it stole a bit of the box office.  Instead we bring you our streaming review of Midsommar and a heaping helping of some nerd news before we answer this week's pod question of "what is you favorite game controller?"

T
his we watched Bat's
streaming suggestion of Midsommar on Amazon Prime. While we were not a fan of Aster's of directorial piece, Hereditary, we heard so many "good" things about Midsommar that we had to give this one a shot.  Lets start off with the first 15 minutes of this movie, which is strong.  So strong that both Bat and I were booked and ready. But then the movie continues on, for quite a while, and at a slow but deliberate pace.  While there definitely was some off putting moments (like the jumping and the sex) over all we found the movie to be a bit too, well bloated and just couldn't keep our attention.  This isn't a bad movie, but it also isn't a great one.  It's here that perhaps the hype just got us a bit too high with excitement because both of us came out of the movie and just felt a little blah.  We can't recommend the investment that this movie takes for it's "payoff" and recommend you give this one a solid pass.

Next week' streaming suggestion is my choice.  We're going to watch Fighting With My Family on Amazon Prime.

Episode 344: Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in geek!

This week we venture into the theater to watch Birds of Prey and (deep breath) the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.  Man that is too long of a title, but even still we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review.  We also discuss what we're playing and talk over some brief nerd news before reviewing our streaming review of The Last Black Man in San Francisco.  We finally wrap things up by
answering last week's podquestion of "what is your favorite free thing you got from a Convention?"

T
his we watched my streaming suggestion of
The Last Black Man in San Francisco on Amazon Prime. Now, I heard a lot of buzz surrounding this movie last year and was really curious to see what this movie had to offer.  Unfortunately while the cinematography is beautiful this movie really looses it's footing on what is a very interesting concept of gentrification and facing your own history.  There are more than a few standout scenes that we both enjoyed but overall the movie drags on way too long and doesn't provide a clear enough story for us to really enjoy it.  We both recommend skipping this movie.

Next week' streaming suggestion is my choice.  We're going to watch Midsommar on Amazon Prime.

Episode 343: Mom and Dad

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in geek!

Just no time this past week to motivate us to get out and watch a movie in the theaters so instead we talk about the nerd news of the past week, review our streaming movie of Mom and Dad and answer last week's podquestion of "which is your favorite Monty Python sketch?"

T
his we watched our listener TK's
suggestion of Mom and Dad on Hulu. Well, let's start off with a question.  "when did Nick Cage stop getting directed and just go full tilt odd ball?"  That's the question that we both kept asking ourselves as we watched through this strange but entertaining movie.  I really loved the way the movie was shot and edited, which gave it a very unique feel.  While it's very much a zombie movie but with parents killing kids, it does have some fun to keep you engaged.  The biggest thing to pull you out of it is Nick Cage's "acting." While Bat didn't enjoy it as much, we both did say that it was worth the watch.

Next week' streaming suggestion is my choice.  We're going to watch The Last Black Man in San Francisco on Amazon Prime.
