Episode 342: Lady Bird

Hello everyone, welcome to our slightly under the weather and delayed week in geek!

We both got hit early with the plague so no full spoiler filled theatrical review.  Instead I bring you the Hammer only spoiler free review of Just Mercy. Maybe it's the sickness or the cold, but there just wasn't too much news so we instead talk a little about what we're still (not) playing, our streaming review of Lady Bird and answer last week's podquestion of "which streaming service would you choose if you could only watch one for the rest of the year?"

T
his we watched
Bat's suggestion of Lady Bird on Amazon Prime. While we heard a lot of good buzz surrounding this movie both Bat and I felt like it completely missed the mark.  To sum up this movie, it very much felt like it was trying to be Juno but without the pregnancy.  The story of Lady Bird as she moves through her senior year and continues to explore the world around her is okay.  It's nothing entrancing, in fact the most exciting part of the movie happens within the first 5 minutes.  After that it feels stagnate, with little character development that seems to keep circling they same tropes.  We didn't hate this movie but we definitely didn't love it and can't really recommend it either.  Skip this one and save some time.

Our next streaming review is brought us by our listener, TK, who wants us to watch Mom and Dad on Hulu.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ or HBOgo. Please send your suggestions to us using any of the means below.

2020 Goals

One goal I set out for in 2020, is to post more and use our page more often. If you've listened to the show, you've heard me say I don't have a computer and posting stuff on my phone was never easy. Well, a great friend has loaned me a laptop so I can fulfill some personal goals. This is a short heads up post, but expect more stupid randomness from me!

Episode 341: 1917

Hello everyone, welcome to our first theatrical review(s) for the new year!

We kind of didn't have a show last week so we stack up our 2 theatrical reviews of Underwater and 1917 and provide both our spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews.  We also touch on a few nerd news of delays, Sony skipping out on E3, Fox being disolved, and the Morbius Trailer. This episode we also spend some time talking about what we're (not) playing, our streaming review of Overlord and answer last week's podquestion of "what is your favorite puzzle in a game?"

T
his week's streaming review was brought to you by me.  We watched the occult driven WWII story
Overlord on Amazon Prime. While there isn't a whole lot to say about this movie, that doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing.  We both enjoyed what we got out of it, which the trailer did a good job of portraying what you were being sold.  The action is pretty solid and the short simple story keeps things pretty tight for the most part.  Not great but it was a decent watch.

Next week we're watching Bat's suggestion of Lady Bird on Amazon Prime.

Episode 340: Hellboy-ish

Hello everyone, welcome to our first week in Geek for the new year!

The year kind of starts off with a whimper in terms of nerd news and streaming reviews, but it's just the beginning. This episode we spend most of our time talking about what we're playing, the sheer lack of enjoyment we had with Hellboy (2019) and the free shit good shit on Playstation plus for January. We also answer last week's podquestion of "What is your New Years resolution?"

T
his week's streaming review was brought to you by Bat.  We watched the 2019 version of Hellboy HBOgo. Neither of us were looking forward to this one as the reviews were not kind to it.  While I absolutely loved the first two with Ron Pearlman, Bat had not seen either of them. Even still, our boredom with this movie was on the same level.  I hate to say it, because of my love of the originals but also the fact that this movie was taking the spot of the non-existent 3rd movie with Pearlman.  There are so many scenes in this movie that were almost payoffs from the other ones but they didn't feel earned.  The fun and weird style of the previous movies just felt like a poor knock.  There are so many things about this movie that just missed the mark, which was sad.  We both recommend you steer clear of this one.

Next week we're watching my suggestion of Overlord on Amazon Prime.
