Episode 334: Frozen II

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We're back with another movie review as the winter season hits harder with Frozen 2. So we give our spoiler filled and spoiler free review of Elsa and Anna's next outing.  We also review our streaming review of the week, Creed 2 and discuss a few bits of nerd news. We wrap it up by answering last week's Podquestion of "what would you race if you had the chance?"

This week's streaming review was Bat's suggestion of Creed 2 on Amazon Prime. We both loved the first foray into this Rocky re-boot/imagining/make and were exciting to see what Jordan's next match would look like.  Sadly, we both may have had our sights set a little higher than this movie could provide.  That is by no means to say that it was bad, but instead that it just wasn't as good as the first one.  The leads are all still fantastic actors and the cinematography is still enjoyable to watch but what really weighs the movie down is it's own ties to the original Rocky films. It feels akin to how Star Trek Into Darkness tried to be something new but at the same time stayed too much to the rivers and lakes that it was used to (gotta fit those TLC references in while I can).  In the end we are given a movie that is still enjoyable and one that we would recommend but we both really hope that the 3rd outing strikes out on it's own and builds a new legacy for us to enjoy.

Next week's streaming review is my choice and we're going to be watching the first of the Ground Hog's Day esque murder horror
Happy Death Day on HBOgo.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 333: Ford Vs Ferrari

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We're back with another movie, upon movie, upon movie review... Yup we (meaning I) saw a lot of movies this week. This time we caught Ford vs Ferrari in the theaters and give our spoiler filled and spoiler free review. I on the other hand saw Doctor Sleep and Charlie's Angels and provide my spoiler free review of both. We also review our streaming review of the week, They Shall Not Grow Old and discuss a few bits of nerd news. We wrap it up by answering last week's Podquestion of "what is your 2nd favorite war movie?"

This week's streaming review was They Shall Not Grow Old on HBOgo.  I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointing in this one.  Overall, the concept was really cool.  Take archived footage, colorize it, dub it after lip readers transcribed what was being said... but the execution leaves so much to be desired.  What we got was a non stop mishmash of people telling stories about WWI.  There was no semblance of story or a narrative.  This same idea could have been achieved in 20-30 minutes instead of almost 2 hours.  Both of us suggest giving this one a skip.

Next week's streaming review is from Bat, and he wants us to watch Creed 2 on Amazon Prime.

Episode 332: Midway

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We're back with another movie review.  This time we catch Midway in the theaters and give our spoiler filled and spoiler free review. We also review our 4th and final movie for our month of horror with Eli and discuss nerd news including: More Batman casting news and Hammer's spoiler free review of Gemini Man.  We wrap it up by answering last week's Podquestion of "which cybernetic enhancement would you want?"

This week's streaming review, and final movie from our month of horror was Eli on Netflix.  Both of us were rather surprised with what we got in this Netflix original.  While it's not the greatest horror movie it definitely was a solid attempt by Netflix, which is saying something.  We both enjoyed the scares that it provided and even with a bit of a shark jumping ending we were left with a good time.  This earned a thumbs up from both of us.

Next week's streaming review is from me, and I want us to watch They Shall Not Grow Old on HBOgo.

Episode 331: Terminator Dark Fate

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We're back with another movie review.  This time we catch Terminator: Dark Fate in the theaters and give our spoiler filled and spoiler free review. We also review our 3rd movie for our month of horror with 68 Kill and discuss nerd news including: Blizzard announcing Overwatch 2 & Diablo 4, and the free games for Xbox and PS4 for the month of November.  We wrap it up by answering last week's Podquestion of "what's the upcoming release that you're excited about but won't play?"

This week's streaming review, and 3rd Horror movie, was 68 Kill on Netflix.  Our friend Jim recommend this crazy ass ride of a movie that, while not necessarily horror, definitely had it's fill of wonderfully senseless gore.  Both Bat and I came out of this one surprised for how much we actually enjoyed it.  The actors play wonderfully hyped up archetypes of their characters and they do it with gusto.  The premise is just plain ridiculous but also weirdly entertaining.  Don't expect a masterpiece, just expect something fun and that's what you will get with this odd ride.  We both gave it a thumbs up and think it's worth the watch.

Next week's streaming review is our last movie in our month of horror.  We will be wrapping it up with a suggestion from Bat, who wanted us to watch
Eli on Netflix.
