Episode 327: Ad Ass-tra

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We hit the theaters this week to see the space..."epic" Ad Astra.  Wow... man I wish we missed this one, but we will get into that later. We're also talking about all the nerd news this week along with discussing our streaming review of Mortal Engines and wrap up the podcast by  answering last week's dark Podquestion of "What is your favorite 90's sit com?"

This week's streaming review was Mortal Engines on HBOgo. Well, one thing is for sure, this is not our week for movies.  Yet another big and bombastic movie that truly disappointed us. To be honest, neither of us really expected much from this movie.  I liked the odd concept, but the movie never really goes anywhere and the character investment isn't present. We both can't recommend skipping this movie enough, you're not missing a thing.

Next week's streaming review is Welcome to Marwen on HBOgo.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 326: Shutter Island

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

Thank you for your patience as I had to take the week off due to some truly crappy times at home. But we're back and we're talking about all nerdy things such as Sony State of Play announcement, Big Arrowverse Crossover, Birds of Prey poster, the Storming of Area 51 and Borderlands 3 reviews.  We also discuss our streaming review of Shutter Island and wrap up the podcast by  answering last week's dark Podquestion of "What is your biggest fear?"

This week's streaming review was Shutter Island on Amazon Prime. While neither of us are big Scorsese fans we both were really into this one.  Bat especially loved this movie.  The film is beautifully shot, acted and scored which alone would make this one worth the watch.  But the mystery and suspense of what the main character is trying to unravel is something that we both were excited to see the conclusion to.  Much like The Perfection, the less you know about this movie the better.  Give this one a watch.

Next week we will be watching Mortal Engines on HBOgo.

Episode 325: IT Chapter 2

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

Oh no, the clown is back in town!  This week we hit the theaters to see IT: Chapter 2.  Don't worry, I most definitely jumped and Bat most definitely laughed at my expense.  But don't worry, we won't spoil the rollercoaster until the end of the show.  In the mean time enjoy our spoiler free review followed by our streaming review of Hurt Locker.  We also discuss some brief nerd news with Nintendo direct announcements and the Bad Boys 4 Life trailer.  Then we wrap up the show by answering  last week's podquestion of "What the last magazine you bought?"

This week's streaming review was The Hurt Locker on HBOgo. It's really sad to say, but this movie was a disappointment.  Knowing for so long that it gained so many accolades, hell it even won best picture over Avatar in 2010, made it all that must more of a let down.  While we were both very interested to see the slice of life movie about a bomb disposal group in Iraq what we were instead treated to was a mish mash of scenes that just made us hate he main character.  There was no real weight or gravity to the situation that they were in, instead it focused haphazardly on the adrenaline junkie style rush of the main character.  Bat's note that the one impact scene, the one where the Lieutenant Colonel was taken out by an IED, is also the main point of emotional impact in the entire film.  We both were pretty amazed that this movie was so highly praised when it felt like and over all shallow portrayal of the the true horrors that were experienced by Bomb techs.  We both recommend skipping this one.

Next week we will be watching Shutter Island on Amazon Prime.

Episode 324: Perfection

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We're hitting the ground running with a whole mess of news but first we dive into our streaming review of The Perfection (I finished it this time!).  Starting off we have the 'classic' video games of Lion King and Alladin coming back, Rise of the Skywalker trailer, Joker new trailer and review reactions and this month's free shit good shit.  We also answer last week's podquestion of "What is your favorite montage song?"

This week's streaming review was The Perfection on Netflix. Gotta admit it right off the bat, we both really enjoyed this one.  So much so, that we both recommend you don't really listen to us or watch any trailers, just give it a watch.  Okay, if you're still reading then there's no talking sense into you so let's get to it.  The way this movie continues to subvert your expectations and evolve the circumstances and characters is truly something to witness.  The periodic "rewinds" that show you the other side of things allows you to slowly chip away at the bigger story and also chips away at the facade of the perfection. The two leads do such a wonderful job at acting each of their parts that I kept thinking back to it long after the credits roll.  Every now and then it seems like Netlfix breaks the mold from it's usual craptacular endings, give this movie your time and attention.

Next week we're watching The Hurt Locker on HBOgo.
