Episode 323: Trilogy, Womp Womp

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We're hitting the ground running with a whole mess of news but first we dive into our streaming review of The Wandering Earth.  Although I didn't finish it, guilty as charged, we provide you our full thoughts and then get to the good stuff.  First off we have Kevin Smith to helm new He-Man series, Sony and Disney fight over Spiderman, Matrix 4 announced, FF8 Remaster launch date, Sony buys Insomniac, Mandalorian Trailer and new Marvel Disney+ TV show announcements. We also answer last week's podquestion of "What is your favorite DVD that you own?"

This week's streaming review was The Wandering Earth on Netflix.First off, let's get it straight... yes I did  recommend this movie and no I did not finish it.  This, of course, makes me an asshole.  Now with that out of the way, from what I have seen of the movie so far Ii can totally understand where Bat is coming from.  While the over all cheesiness of this movie isn't his flavor, it's completely mine.  The only thing that will sway my opinion one way or another is if I get bored with the rest of it.  Bat definitely gave it a skip and I'm still on the see it train, so far.  But we both agreed that it's nice to see another culture's take on big and bombastic sci-fi.

Next week we're watching The Perfection on Netflix.

Episode 322: Okay-ish Boys

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

We hit the theaters this episode to catch the Good Boys to see if they really are a bunch of good boys... spoilers they aren't but more on that later.  As always we provide you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of the movie.  We also bring you our streaming review of the Sweet Documentary, Fedup, before diving into some nerd news including: Obi Wan show confirmed for Disney+, Viacom and CBS merger, new Timesplitters and Saints Row games in the mix, and Duck Tales remastered getting pulled. Then we wrap up our show, as always, by answering last weeks podquestion of "what is your favorite work out exercise?"

This week's streaming review was Fed Up. Normally Bat and I really do love us some documentaries but sadly this one really felt like all sugar no filler.  While many had talked this up as a "revelation" neither of us really learned anything that we didn't know.  Besides the percentage thing, that's truly fucked up.  But again, back to the documentary itself. This movie waxed and waned so much that we both got lost on what it's actual message or goal was.  In trying to balance a human story and a history lesson it really did a disservice to both.  While we both agree that there is an addiction problem, we don't think this movie did much favors to bringing an awareness to the problem and recommend you pass on this one.

Next week we're watching the Chinese Sci-Fi epic The Wandering Earth on Netflix.

Episode 321: Excessively Long, Stunningly Disappointing and Bland

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

No theatrical review this week as we skip out on some scary stories.  Instead we review our streaming movie of Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile on Netflix.  We also dive into some fun nerd news with the announcement of a Event Horizon on Hulu, a Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle, Momoa protesting in Hawaii, changing the loot box formulas.  Then we wrap up our show, as always, by answering last weeks podquestion of "which Fast and Furious characters do you want them to spin off next?"

This week's streaming review was Netlfix's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. The Ted Bundy case is widely known as one that flipped our perceptions of what a brutal serial killer could be.  Casting Zac Efron as Bundy was a great choice as he was able to portray the cunning, strategic, charismatic and entirely dark character.  The parts where this movie falters is all around it's editing, especially the ending.  While they portray the killings and Teds life as two separate things to really give you a grasp of what the country was going through they failed at tying it all together at the end.  What could have been a drastic revelation akin to pulling the curtains back on who he was they left it ambiguous which was just plain confusion.  Yet another victim of the Netlfix movie curse.  We both gave this one a thumbs down and recommended you

Next week we're hitting up Amazon Prime for our next sugary documentary fix with Fed Up.

Episode 320: Too Hobbs, Too Shaw

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!

It's gonna be a quick one (muffled laughter) as we pulled a late night movie watch and recording session to see Hobbs and Shaw.  We present you with out spoiler free and spoiler filled review of this newest addition to the Fast and Furious Cinematic Universe (FFCU?).  With little else to talk about we dive right on into the free shit, good shit, review our streaming movie of Serenity and answer last week's podquestion of "which now defunct business do you miss the most?"

This week's streaming review was Serenity. I was definitely not sold on this movie based upon the trailers but one must never judge a book by it's cover.  That's a lesson that this movie teaches you about half way through.  What starts out as one man's obsession with catching that great tuna turns into a almost film noir hit movie before it goes full tits up and becomes a existential mind trip.  I definitely did not see the twist coming and the connection to McConaughey's daily life and the internal struggles that his son was going through were something else.  While this movie is not a favorite of either of us it did surprise us.  The concept was solid and for the most part the execution was as well.  But something just felt off and we both had troubles putting our fingers on it. While it's worth giving a shot it falls just short of some of our favorite movie head trips.

Our next week's streaming review is on Netlfix's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
