Episode 281: 2018 Summer Movie Round up

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek!  With us doing our Summer movie round up this episode we thought it was only fitting for us to watch the last movie on our list for this "summer."  So we went out to the theaters to watch Predator and we are bringing you our spoiler filled and spoiler free reviews for your listening pleasure.  Speaking of our Summer Movie Round up... we're doing that too!  It was a busy Summer season and we saw some pretty neat movies along with a few disappointing ones and missed a whole slew of movies that will surely be future streaming movie fodder.  But before we get to that we actually got a decent amount of nerd news with:

-TaleTell closing
-Die Hard 6
-Captain Marvel trailer
-Civ 6 coming to Switch
-Xbox console subscription plan
-Joaquin Joker teaser
- PS & N64 Classics
-PS Now Download option
Along with all of these awesome bits we review our streaming movie this month, Cargo.

This week's streaming review Netflix original movie Cargo. Let's start off and say that while this is a zombie movie it actually doesn't feature a whole lot of zombies, or as they call them "virals."  This movie focuses more on the human aspect, more specifically the connection between the main character and his daughter.  The main drive for Freeman in the movie is to get his daughter to safety within the 48 hrs he has left before he also turns.  As I mentioned last week this movie was actually based off of a short movie by the same name)  You can watch that short film here Cargo Short Film) but besides Freeman's performance this movie feels like the good concept was stretched a bit too thin.  We both thoroughly enjoyed his performance and think he's the main thing pulling this movie together.  But sadly we're a bit split on whether

that makes us want to recommend the movie.  We both gave it a thumbs up but I'm telling people to hold off while Bat is saying he thinks Freeman's performance makes it more worth while.

Episode 280: Bye Bye Mr. Super Guy

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek!  We failed to get back out to the theaters this week but we will be hitting it hard next week with Predator and our Summer Movie wrap up.  So this week instead we take a look at the trickle of nerd news including the rumors of Henry Cavil exiting the DC EU... Oh no!  Like seriously, we really love him as Superman and have no clue if DC has a solid idea of what they want to do. We also talk about our streaming movie Moon and answer this week's podquestion of which Super Hero's alter ego's job would we want to do.

This week's streaming review was Moon.  We have been curious about seeing this one for some time.  In fact it was one of the reasons we watched the Netflix original Mute, as it was the same director.  Unfortunately we really, really didn't like Mute so it made us both hesitant to want to rush to see Moon.  But I can say that the driving force for both of us was Sam Rockwell, and he delivered.  Much like the one actor movies like Castaway, this movie heavily relies on the performance by Rockwell to really sell the concept.  While the movie may end a bit rushed we both found it to be a enjoyable ride with some good acting to continue to move the story along.  We both recommend giving this movie a shot and think you'll have a good time while you're at it.

For next week's streaming review we're jumping back into the breach of Netflix orignal movies with Cargo.  Funny enough, this movie is actually a remake of the short film that I was talking to Bat about on the podcast by the same title.  You can watch that short film here Cargo Short Film.

Episode 279: Continuity Errors

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek!  We are back in the swing of things, and just in time to talk a bit about Spiderman for PS4!  We give it a spoiler free treatment and talk about our experiences so far... and some of the terrible selfies Bat's taken in game (see image below).  But it is our saddening duty to review yet another bad Netflix original movie, this time the culprit is The Package. On a lighter, and more enjoyable note we have a little nerd news with the casting of Cavill as Geralt in the Witcher TV show and the purchase of Kingdoms of Amalur by THQ Nordic.  lastly we wrap our week in geek up with answers to our podquestion of what did you want to be the next big Movie Trilogy.

This week's streaming review was another Netflix Original Tragedy, The Package.  With all the basic tropes of a bunch of sexually frustrated teens comedy movie we were hoping for a few laughs... but sadly the only ones we got were premature and short lived.  Which ironically fits this movie to a T.  While it's only an hour and a half the journey feels like it takes a lot longer.  The lack of chemistry between the characters and the lame jokes really feed into this feeling. The pay off never really seems to come and we're left watching numerous airborne dick shots that would probably make Lorena Bobbitt happy.  We both give this one a hard pass, take a walk and visit something better.

For the next movie we're hopping for something better than the director's newest movie (Mute) and taking a chance on watching Moon.  You can join in by watching this movie on Netflix.

Episode 278: Hardcore Henry and Life Stuff

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! Yes it's been a couple of weeks but for good reason!  Bat was patient with me as I was working through a busy birthday and a bout with altitude sickness. But we're back in action and kind of sorta back in form.  Still though, even with all of this time that we gave for news to stock pile up and we get nada.  We passed PAX and GamesCom and the most we have is some info regarding the hold up on Guardians Vol 3 and booze available in Star Wars land!  We also review our streaming movie of Hardcore Henry, talk about some free shit good shit for Playstation and Xbox as well as answer our last podquestion of what type of Westworld-eqsue world would you like to visit?

This week's streaming review was the First Person Movie, Hardcore Henry.  We both were worried about this one, mainly because we hadn't heard a peep about it.  But we were pleasantly surprised by some fun action scenes that were stitched loosely around some nonsensical story, but lets be honest... most of our favorite action movies kind of follow this format.  Mind you, this is not one of our favorite movies out there but we were entertained throughout.  The villain is silly and forgettable but the multitudes of Sharltos was kind of fun.  But in the end of the day we kind of wished that the movie had been pulled back to a 3rd person so that we could truly appreciate some of these awesome action scenes.

For the next movie we're hopping back into the Netflix originals with The Package.  You can join in by watching this movie on Netflix.
