Episode 275: Mustache Impossible 6

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! This week we ditch our sweet love of the Purge in favor of the next Tom Cruise Explosion fest when we review Mission: Impossible: Fallout... that's a lot of collons!  As normal we provide you a spoiler free review first but also give you a more spoiler filled review at the end of the show!  Since the geek world still seems to be reeling from SDCC there's little to no news to talk about so we breeze quickly by what we do have and discuss some of the Xbox Games with Gold in free shit good shit, review our streaming review of I, Tonya and answer last week's fan suggested podquestion of what TV show hangout would you you want to chill at.

This week's streaming review waI, Tonya on Hulu.  Man, if you I didn't know this was based on real events I would call bullshit so many times.  This movie provides a look into the life story of Tonya Harding and her rise and fall.  The events surrounding the attack of Nancy Kerrigan are kind of nuts...like seriously nuts.  It's absolutely insane what happens and what actually went down.  It also gives a glimpse of social media justice back in the days where news was king.  It's pretty scary how both of our perceptions of the actual events were so different.  We both would highly recommend giving this movie a watch!

For the next movie we're taking a dive into missed movies of our past with Cloud Atlas.  This was another Wachowski movie that we missed... was it for good reason?  I guess we're going to find out soon.  You can watch along on Netflix.

Episode 274: SDCC 2018 Super Recap

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! No theatrical review this week but fret not!  Nerd news has been blessed by the wonder of SDCC.  So we spend this episode pouring over the trailers and news that hit from SDCC this past weekend.  We review Detroit for this week's streaming review and answer our Podquestion of what TV show hang out would you choose?

This week's streaming review was Detroit.  Phew, this movie is intense.  It was also a little different than what we expected by being more of a very personal story happening during the events of the Detroit riots.  There were so many moments that just really put you in the moment of the characters and made you feel the tension.  The acting was solid and the cinematography that brought the story to life.  Also finding out this was based on a true story further drove home the story.  We both would give this movie a recommendation to help bring you into a dark time in United States history.

For the next movie we're taking a break from the serious movies and watching something a little strange and that is I, Tonya on Hulu.  We both love Margo Robbie and can't wait to see her take on Tonya Harding.

Episode 273: Adventures of Legman and the Tall Building

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! We hit the theaters to watch the Rock's most recent movie foray (that's at least 3 so far this year!) by catching Skyscrapper.  Was this the new DieHard that we wanted or was it more of A Good Day to Die Hard?  Listen in to find out as we bring you both our spoiler filled and spoiler free reviews. We also discuss what very little news we have with the new Joker Origins movie and the new Neill Blomkamp movie.  We also review Professor Marston for this week's streaming review and answer our Podquestion of what bug power would you want?

This week's streaming review was the origin story of Wonder Woman, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.  This movie was pretty much the story we had expected, though both of us had heard rumors of the origins of Wonder Woman neither of us had looked into the history much.  While this movie no doubt takes some artistic licence with it merely being  "based on a true story" we both are very curious to see what the differences between reality and fiction are.  The acting is solid and the story is a pretty engaging time capsule of a time long past.  The origins and purpose of Wonder Woman are far different than what some may have expected.  But the exploration into Polyamory and BDSM really paints a much better picture than you will ever get from the likes of 50 Shades.  We both liked this movie and recommend giving it a watch when you have the time.

The next movie up for streaming review we're hitting up Hulu again for some dramatic story telling with Detroit.  We both very much wanted to see this movie back when it came out in theaters and are very curious to watch this movie and expect some hard hitting drama.

Episode 272: Ant Man and the Wasp Lady

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! Some how we were surprised by a Marvel movie as we unexpectedly hit the theaters to see Antman and the Wasp.  Don't worry, we provide both our spoiler free and spoiler-filled reviews of the largest adventure for our tiny heroes.  We also bring you our streaming review of the Departed as well as talk a bit about toxic fandoms and we answer this week's podquestion of which real movie prop would you own.

This week's streaming review was the much talked about The Departed.   Holy crap was this a hell of a movie.  Mind you it's long and the ending felt a bit off but the rest of the movie is solid.  Seeing two top actors star as co-main characters is pretty damn intense.  Being able to watch two men rise up on different sides of the law while being rats for the other side is full of some crazy drama.  Both Damon and DiCaprio provide some fantastic acting and really bring both of the characters to life.  We both highly recommend this movie to anyone.  My person issue is with the ending that goes a bit off the rails and seems to come out of nowhere with Wahlberg's character having the final word.  But regardless, give this movie your time and attention, you won't be disappointed.

The next movie up for streaming review has been one that both Bat and I have wanted to see for a while. Professor Marston and the Wonder Women tells the tale of the man who created Wonder Woman and the two women in his life that inspired her.  Check out this drama heavy movie on Hulu.

Episode 271: She's Bengay

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! We're taking a little break from the theaters for a little dinner ramen and some good oll geeky talk.  Besides the free shit good shit for July there's not much else to talk about.  So what do we do?  Naturally we go waaaaay off topic and end up waxing poetic about Last of Us and how people get it so wrong in such spectacular ways.  We also actually remembered to answer this week's podquestion of what is the oldest shirt that you own in your closet.

This week's streaming review was the Netflix Original The Outsider and boy were we both bored/disappointed.  The movie itself is really an unimpressive take on a stranger in a strange land. I think the biggest topic of conversation that was brought up between us was Jared Leto.  Mainly it was whether or not we actually like this guy.  As we look back on it we're both pretty sure that we don't like him, and in this movie especially his acting was incredibly wooden and bland.  We both highly recommend you skip this one.

Since The Outsider was such a spectacular disappointment we decided to finally watch the much talked about The Departed.  Here's to hoping we will get a better mafia movie out of this one.  You can watch along on Netflix.
