Episode 260: Monsters versus Robots and?

Welcome back to our week in geek.  This week we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of the glorious Monsters versus Robots movie that is Pacific Rim: Uprising.  We also continue to watch through our streaming suggestions by watching Fullmetal Alchemist  Netflix. Again, you'll have fun listening Bat's dislike for this movie, though it wasn't as bad as Mute. We discuss the absolute lack of the ongoing news and we answer last week's podquestion of what game series would you like to see made into a movie.

Also as a note, I will be out of the country exploring the land of Japan so there won't be a week in geek for a couple of weeks.  But if you want to follow my adventures feel free to follow me on instagram @KrennnKalis.  Otherwise look forward to hearing random stories when we get back.

This week's fan streaming review from the our friend Buggs and he wanted us to watch the Netflix produced live action adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist.  As we stated last week Bat came into this completely new to FMA while I've been a fan of the series for some time.  So essentially you get the best of both worlds.  From Bat's perspective, the movie was confusing, convoluted and the lack of option for Dub made it more of a chore for him to watch.  The movie failed to fully bring him into the world or endear him to any of the characters.  As a fan of the series I would say the movie was passable, not great but not terrible.  It kind of actually reminds me of the Warcraft movie, where it plays heavily to the fans of the series but doesn't do a good job on on boarding newcomers.  It essentially has all the parts of the first half of the series and if you've seen the movie you won't be lost and you'll be calling out some shot for shot scenes.  Which is where Bat points out the movie really missed an opportunity.  Although we know that this movie was made for a Japanese audience we really wished that it would have taken the concept of the series and characters and did something entirely different with it.  Essentially we wish that it was more of an OVA (original video animation) than a retelling of the same story.  Also, condensing half of a 50 something series into a 2 hour movie is a tall order.  If you never have watched the series we recommend skipping the movie, and if you're a fan of the series we wouldn't fully endorse it either....

No streaming suggestion this week as we will be taking a few episodes off, but you can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.
