Episode 291: Momoa-Man

Hello everyone, welcome back and a very special Happy Holidays from both of us!
This week we're super excited to bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews of Aquaman (it's actually real!).  We also discuss our streaming review of The Christmas Chronicles along with some nerd news regarding the trailers for Men in Black International, Hellboy, Aladdin and Doom Patrol. Lastly we wrap up this week's show by answering this week's podquestion of what is your favorite Spider Man.

This week we watched the new Netflix Christmas movie The Christmas Chronicles.  I can say that I was genuinely surprised at how much fun I had with this movie.  Bat does mention a clear caveat by remembering this is a kids movie but even with that in mind you can still find a decent amount of fun watching Kurt Russel run around as old Saint Nick.  It's not a genre breaking movie but it does do a good enough job mirroring one of my favorite (Tim Allen's Santa Clause) to earn it's place among the yearly tradition.  Give it a shot, it's silly and fun but has enough heart to give it a longer lifespan.

Next week we're watching the fan suggestion of Mowgli: The Legend of the Jungle on Netflix.  It seems Kristi heard our cries and whines about not wanting to see it and she decided to give us a little early Christmas present by recommending this movie.  Hopefully it's better than we're expecting.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 290: Will the Real Spiderman Please Step Up

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. This week we're super excited to bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews of Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse.  We also discuss our streaming review of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs along with some nerd news regarding the unannounced cancellation of the Punisher Netflix show and I talk about my experience with Doki Doki Literature Club  Lastly we wrap up this week's show by answering this week's podquestion of what has been the game you've had the most fun with this year.

This week we watched the new Cohen Brother's flick The Ballad of Buster Scruggs on Netflix. Both of us have to say that we were genuinely surprised (pleasantly even) that this move was actually more of a vignette style movie than one continuous story.  Buster Scruggs was only in the first of the 6 vignette even.  The other 5 were more slice of life in the wild west.  While our favorites varied between Bat and myself we both agreed that the first bunch of the stories were the strongest.  With the last 2-3 starting to drag on.  I absolutely loved the Prospector story and Bat really enjoyed the Pan Shot one.  While Bat was really anxious going into this one he came around and gave it a thumbs up, as I did.  While not all of the stories are strong, and they don't connect in any noticeable way, we both still had a good time watching them.

Next week we're watching the Kurt Russell lead The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix.  Join us in watching what we hope might be a fun new addition to the Christmas movie repertoire.

Episode 289: Not 290

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. We're still keeping with the short and sweet episodes by sticking with what we do best, bullshittery.  We discuss our streaming review of the Rampage.  And we also discuss nerd news with the fall of Tumblr, The Avengers End Game and Captain Marvel trailers, Game Award announcements, some free shit good shit and answering this week's podquestion of which natural disaster scares you the most.

This week we watched another Rock-rific movie with Rampage.  While there was some promise of a cheese fest action flick we were only teased a bit with some of the fights between the monsters.  This fact alone left us a little out in the cold, hoping for more action.  While it's not terrible it's also not great.  The chemistry between the Rock and George was good but the rest of the movie just left us wanting more.  You can skip this one or watch it, either way I don't think you'll be missing much.

Next week we're watching the new Cohen Brother's flick in all of it's strangeness.  Bat is already groaning at the thought.  But you can watch along as we pick The Ballad of Buster Scruggs on Netflix this week.

Episode 288: Hurr-i-cane

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. We're keeping with the short and sweet episodes by sticking with what we do best, bullshittery.  We discuss our streaming review of the, how did this not end up on SyFy, Hurricane Heist.  And we also discuss nerd news discussing the cancellation of DareDevil, announcement of a live action Cowboy Bebop and Red Dead Online launch.  We wrap it all up in a nice little bow by answering this week's podquestion of what was your favorite Queen song.

Watching Hurricane Heist we can't help but continuously ask ourselves "how did this not end up as a made for TV movie on SyFy.  This week's streaming review seems, at face value, to be a silly yet fun concept.  But what it actually turned to was a movie that had just too much plot for it's own good.  It focused on two brothers who watched their father die in a hurricane that are trying to stop 600 Million dollars from getting stolen.  Sounds fun right?  Nope, this movie drags it's feet at most every opportunity and the only thing that really gets off of the ground is all the debris.  We can't say how disappointed we were, which is just plain sad.  We both suggest you stay in your storm shelter and let it pass you by.

Next week we're starting to tackle some of those Summer movies that we missed by watching Rampage on HBOgo this week.

Episode 287: Ralph Wrecks the Sequel

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. This week we bring you pretty short and sweet show with our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Ralph Breaks the Internet.  As our title kind of spoils it, we didn't really love it. We also discuss our streaming review of Netflix's live action adaption of Bleach along with a singular news story about Live Action Completely CGI Lion King movie trailer and answer this week's podquestion of what was your favorite Stan Lee Cameo.

Sometimes I just like to torture Bat... and this week's streaming review is a great example of that with our streaming review of Bleach on Netflix. The movie follows much of the first season of the anime series with a few modifications. On the whole it's actually a pretty decent adaptation with the characters capturing the look and feel of most of the characters (maybe except Orihime) and the overall style and flare of the show, even down to Rukia's drawings. The key problems with this movie is that is really only appeals, and seems to make sense, to those that are fans of the series.  Bat was pretty darn lost and also completely miffed by the Dub vs Subtitles conflict.  If anything I'd recommend only watching this one in Sub as the English voice cast and script are pretty rough. If you are not an anime/Bleach fan, like Bat, you might want to avoid this one but if you are like me and enjoy the show and its anime tropes I think you'll find that it's pretty enjoyable.  Heck it makes me want to go back and watch the series a little bit. Bat says hard pass and I say give it a try.

Next week we're hoping back in the whirlwind... heh... and watching Hurricane Heist
on Netflix.  This movie is gonna be stupid, but here's to hoping that it's an enjoyable level of stupid.

Episode 285: Fantastic Crimes and Where to Dumbledore

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek.

First and foremost, with all of our joking aside, we really do want to send all our best thoughts towards Stan Lee's family and friends.  You sir, will sorely be missed.

Okay, back to normal bs, this week we bring you our magically spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.  Are you excited for some more wand slinging, because we know we are!  We also discuss our streaming review of (groan) Fifty Shades Freed along with some nerd news regarding Sony pulling out of E3 and the Detective Pikachu.  We also answer this week's podquestion of what was your favorite strategy guide.

Oh sometimes I have to ask why we do this to ourselves... but this week our streaming review was Fifty Shades Freed on HBOgo.  What can we say that we haven't already said?  These two are just plain terrible for each other and for themselves.  Manipulative, childish, poorly planned... well the list goes on and on.  But it says something when the most boring part of the movie is it's sex scenes.  Our biggest complaint over the past 3 movies, beyond everything else, is the sheer lack of chemistry between the two main characters.  There is a literal void where their chemistry should be.  It's like watching a movie that's inside a movie ironically where the actors are mocking soap opera actors by just reciting their lines.  The best part about this movie is when it ends because you know that's all of them for now.  Skip it, you know you want to.

Next week we're going to be taking a bit of a pallet cleanser by watching the live action adaptation to the anime Bleach on Netflix.  I've heard good things about it so here's to hoping I didn't just doom us to watch a travesty in motion.

Episode 285: Free State of Alright Alright Alright

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. This week we discuss our streaming review of Free State of Jones along with some nerd news regarding Microsoft's recent acquisition, FF15 DLC canceled and Diablo Mobile Reception.  We also answer this week's podquestion of what song you wanted to see featured in Red Dead 2.

We start the month of November off with a hopeful epic of Free State of Jones on Netflix.  We both were hoping for something more than this movie was able to provide.  We were wanting something epic and a story that sprawled the Civil War.  Unfortunately we were left with a rather disjointed movie instead. There were many "epic" things that happened during this movie but sadly they way they were presented just left the viewer (us) wanting more.  We think the movie might have done better if it focused less on Newt as a person and more of the events that surrounded him.  We both gave this one a thumbs down.

Next week we're going to be watching the romantic epic,  Fifty Shades Freed.  Yup it's gonna be "great" but at least it's over after this one.  You can watch along on HBOgo.
