Episode 267: Incredibles Too!

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! This week we hit the theaters for the long
awaited Pixar sequel, Incredibles 2.  Is it good? Is it Great?  Is it, dare I say incredible? Well listen in on our spoiler free and spoiler filled podcast (at the end of our show) to find out what we think.  We, along with our friend Terry, also get to digest all of the E3 goodness as well as berate your favorite hammer for being the tool he is and forgetting (likely story) to watch our streaming review.  Some how, with all of our years of Podcasting experience, we again forget the podquestion.

Beyond Skyline is still on Netflix and is still our streaming review.

Episode 266: The Last Jedi The Fan Edit PCF Panel 2018

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek!  We're back to the non standard podcasts this week due to Hammer going out on Beerfest adventures this past weekend. This podcast is our 2nd and last panel from PCF where we roasted The Last Jedi.  There was a good crowd and we discovered that Bat apparently hates life. Though I will admit we do a terrible job of restating people's comments and questions, despite me saying that we would in the beginning.  This is a live podcast and the audio quality may not always be the best.  But you do get to hear us rant and rave about all the things that TLJ could have done better.

We will be back to the normal format next week with our review of Hotel Artemis and so much E3 goodness.  So thank you for listening and make sure to continue following our adventures using any of the means below.

Episode 267: Solo Adventure

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! We are back in the groove again!  Back from our adventures from PCC... err PCF...well now PFF... screw this that's too many name changes.  It's not like it's the artist formerly known as Prince.  Anyways, tangent aside, we have our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Spoilers, we liked it a lot more than we expected to.  We also review our last streaming suggestion of Andres the Giant, talk up some Nerd News and dish out some free shit good shit.

This week's streaming suggestion was Andre the Giant on HBOgo.  While I had heard from many people that this bio-documentary was a tear-jerker, I have you say I left with dry eyes.  Not to say the movie was terrible, we both just thought that it was more of an informational ride than a in-depth look in to the friendly giant.  There was even a good portion of the movie that really skewed away from Andre and focused more on Hulk and McMan and seemed like we diverted into a WWF history segment.  Both of us are pretty on the fence of whether or not to recommend the movie, we had a decent enough time but you're not missing much if you don't watch it.

Next week we dare to step back into the terrifyingly bad movie verse of Skyline with
Beyond Skyline on Netflix.  Blame this one on Bat.

Episode 266: Summer Movie Preview Extravaganza Remastered PCF Panel 2018

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek!  We're continuing the non standard podcasts this week due to Phoenix Comic Fest happening this past weekend.  This podcast is our Summer Movie preview panel that we love doing every year.  There was a good crowd this time, though I will admit we do a terrible job of restating people's comments and questions.  As Bat put it off mic, it's just hard to pause the conversation and reiterate.  With that said, this is a live podcast and the audio quality may not always be the best.  But you do get to hear us rant and rave about all the summer movies that have past and those that are still on the horizon.

We will be back to the normal format next week with our review of Solo and so much else.  So thank you for listening and make sure to continue following our adventures using any of the means below.

Episode 264: Shhh, It's a Quiet Place

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! This week we play a little catch up in the theaters and review the thriller Quiet Place.  We bring you both our spoiler free and spoiler filled thoughts on this new quiet scare fest. Along with that we talk a bit about some movie trailers, streaming review of ...groan... The House and answer this week's podquestion of how you got your first job.

This week's streaming suggestion of The House on HBOgo came from our friend/foe Kristi. You may know her as the person who has given us such wonderful suggestions as Grave Encounters (one of my favs) and Open House also seems to have a wrathful side.  Bat has no love for Farrell and while I don't hate him to the same extent I must say... this movie is a true piece of shit.  Man... what did we watch.  I don't know what to say other than please, please avoid this waste of time.  Also, Kristi, please be kind oh merceriful dear listener.  Naturally we would both give this 2 huge thumbs down but they were cut off by Farrell.

Next week we get back to watching a few of our own streaming suggestions by watching  Andre the Giant on HBOgo.

Episode 263: Avengers Infinity War... Yup It's That Episode

Hello everyone and welcome to our Epic week in geek!  Why is it Epic you may ask?  Well it's our Avengers Infinity War review episode!  Holy crap guys, it's here and we're going to bring you our spoiler free review and then really dive in at the latter half of our podcast and go full spoiler mode!  If you haven't seen the movie yet then please avoid that as we both agree that going into this movie with minimal knowledge of what's going to happen really made the movie that much more enjoyable.  Now along with that we have a little more geek talk along with Venom costume reveal, more God of War (BOY!) talk, out streaming review of The Informant! and some free shit good shit for May.  We also answer last week's podquestion (shame! no answers) of what was your last traffic ticket.

This week's streaming suggestion of The Informant! was from our friend TK which was on HBOgo.  This strange... strange movie was loosely (we're not sure how loosely) based on true events.  It centers on the eclectic life of Matt Damon who is a VP during FBI informant but who also moonlights as a bi-polar embezzler.  Confused? So were we.  This movie wears many hats and does a good job of leaving you as confused as some of the character's lawyers in the movie.  While we definitely didn't enjoy this as much as Wolf of Wallstreet or The Big Short we had a few chuckles but were left mouthing "WTF" at the screen.  I think both of us would agree that this one is skippable though not terrible.  If you love watching Matt Damon play a seemingly innocent and lovable guy who's definitely up to mischief in a confounding story then this might be right up your alley.

Next week we continue the fan streaming suggestion by watching Kristi' suggestion of The House on HBOgo.  Oh man, does she know how to torture poor Bat.

Episode 262: Super Troopers Part Deux

Hello everyone and welcome to our regularly scheduled week in geek!  This week we venture out to the theaters to bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Super Troopers 2.  As with last week we're sitting a little lack of nerdy news but we do have something awesome to talk about that released this week, God of War for PS4!  Oh yes, Kratos is back in a big bad way and both Bat and I are here to give you our first thoughts (don't worry we keep it vague and spoiler free).  We also discuss this week's fan suggestion streaming review of Open House on Netflix and answer this week's Podquest of what is your favorite Asian food.

This week's streaming suggestion of Open House on Netflix was from one of our listeners Kristi.  The movie follows the tale of a Mother and Son who are out of house and home and end up staying in the Aunt's house (remote mountain top mansion) that is on the market.  The horror movie set up actually feels bad (in a good way) with the setting being something that you can unfortunately imagine taking place in real life.  The movie does a good job of showing terrifying things to the viewer but leaving the characters blissfully unaware or unable to see what lurks just around the corner.  At first I thought it was going to be a simple jump scare-a-thorn but it quickly showed it's true colors as a wonderfully upsetting mind game where it gave you plenty of likely suspects but surprises you at the very end with the terrifying answer of not knowing who the killer is or what their motivation is besides wanting to torture poor unsuspecting open houses.  While we still would like for some tweaks and edits to the movie we both recommend this one and gave it a thumbs up.  Thanks Kristi for another good horror movie recommendation!

Next week we continue the fan streaming suggestion by watching TK's suggestion of The Informant! on HBOgo.

Episode 261: Ready Player 1.5

Hello everyone and welcome to our "back from vacation" episode!  It's been 2 weeks and I've returned from Japan (not dead despite Bat's jinxing) and we're ready to hop right back into all the nerdy stuff!.... okay there actually might not be a whole lot of nerdy stuff to jump into but we do have our theatrical review of Ready Player One and we provide your standard spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews.  We dive a bit more into the differences between the book and the movie in the spoiler filled review so please feel free to listen in and join the conversation by telling us what you think.  I know I said we didn't have 'much' news to talk about but as per the usual we find something to discuss as well as I rant on a good 20 minutes about Japan-land.  If that's not your speed, totally understand, then you can skip from 13 minutes to approximately 33 minutes... I told you, I kind of ranted a bit.

Anyways loved the vacation and was happy to share some of my adventures via Instagram but I'm super excited to get back into the swing of things!

As we didn't set a streaming review last episode we're going to continue through our fan streaming suggestion backlog by watching Kristi's suggestion of Open House on Netflix. So feel free to tune into Netflix along with us and hide behind the covers.

Episode 260: Monsters versus Robots and?

Welcome back to our week in geek.  This week we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of the glorious Monsters versus Robots movie that is Pacific Rim: Uprising.  We also continue to watch through our streaming suggestions by watching Fullmetal Alchemist  Netflix. Again, you'll have fun listening Bat's dislike for this movie, though it wasn't as bad as Mute. We discuss the absolute lack of the ongoing news and we answer last week's podquestion of what game series would you like to see made into a movie.

Also as a note, I will be out of the country exploring the land of Japan so there won't be a week in geek for a couple of weeks.  But if you want to follow my adventures feel free to follow me on instagram @KrennnKalis.  Otherwise look forward to hearing random stories when we get back.

This week's fan streaming review from the our friend Buggs and he wanted us to watch the Netflix produced live action adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist.  As we stated last week Bat came into this completely new to FMA while I've been a fan of the series for some time.  So essentially you get the best of both worlds.  From Bat's perspective, the movie was confusing, convoluted and the lack of option for Dub made it more of a chore for him to watch.  The movie failed to fully bring him into the world or endear him to any of the characters.  As a fan of the series I would say the movie was passable, not great but not terrible.  It kind of actually reminds me of the Warcraft movie, where it plays heavily to the fans of the series but doesn't do a good job on on boarding newcomers.  It essentially has all the parts of the first half of the series and if you've seen the movie you won't be lost and you'll be calling out some shot for shot scenes.  Which is where Bat points out the movie really missed an opportunity.  Although we know that this movie was made for a Japanese audience we really wished that it would have taken the concept of the series and characters and did something entirely different with it.  Essentially we wish that it was more of an OVA (original video animation) than a retelling of the same story.  Also, condensing half of a 50 something series into a 2 hour movie is a tall order.  If you never have watched the series we recommend skipping the movie, and if you're a fan of the series we wouldn't fully endorse it either....

No streaming suggestion this week as we will be taking a few episodes off, but you can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 259: CGI Raider

Welcome back to our week in geek.  This week we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Tomb Raider.  We also continue to watch through our streaming suggestions  by reviewing Mute on Netflix. You'll want to listen in on Bat's extreme dislike for this movie, I found it particularly entertaining to see a reaction close-ish to BvS or TLJ.  We discuss some of the ongoing news and we answer last week's podquestion of what was your first Mature rated game.

This week's fan streaming review from the Heterolifemate was Mute on Netflix. Now I kind of spoiled it in the intro, but we didn't really like this movie.  Bat absolutely HATED it and I just didn't enjoy it.  The world of a futuristic Berlin as the back drop was kind of interesting but the cast of characters and how they were haphazardly strewn about made the movie and over all mess.  Both of us thought that the lost love plot was overly convoluted and the motivation for her dead at the hands of Cactus just didn't really make sense to us.  The overly elongated ending as well just stretched out what we were having a hard time following.  I do like Bat's idea of pitching a movie just about cactus and his partner, where neither of them know the others "dark secrets" and watch as they slowly discover.  But that movie doesn't exist and sadly what we're left with was a Muted response of a movie.  We both suggest you save your time and spend it somewhere else, perhaps on Altered Carbon.

This week's streaming suggestion comes from our friend Buggs.  He wants us to watch the Netflix produced live action adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist.  While Bat hasn't seen any of the anime I've watched and loved it all.  I'm a little cautious going into this one after the Netflix Death Note movie.  Even with it being a Japanese produced adaptation I'm still cautiously optimistic because I've been burnt before.  I'm looking at you Attack on Titan live action!

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.
