Episode 211: Fake Episode 210

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we get a little distracted and talk about random stuff, discuss our streaming movie,Blair Witch, and answer this week's question of which AI companion would you choose.

Our Second Halloween Streaming Review was the Blair Witch.  The original movie was one of Bat's favorites but sadly this one is definitely not.  To be honest it's not really my favorite either. With the shaky cam and cheap jump scares we felt like this movie really squandered its opportunity to be a really enjoyable ride.  We talk for a pretty long while about how we really enjoy the ambiance and the setting and how we would work to "fix" the movie but alas we are left with what we have here.  Which is a pretty "meh" horror flick.  We suggest skipping this one for something better.

This week's Streaming Review has us watching our 3rd horror movie in honor of Halloween.  This week has us watching another Netflix original The Babysitter.  This Hor-Omedy, as Bat put it, reminds us a little bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and gives me a nice respite from further horrific movies.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 210: Only The Brave

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews of Only the Brave as well as we get together to talk about some nerd news (I know, shocker!), discuss our streaming movie, Lights Out, and answer this week's question of what was your favorite Halloween candy when you were a kid.

This week's Streaming Review was Lights Out on HBOgo. We really liked the idea of the boogie man (woman) character essentially living within the mind of the mother and the first encounters with the creepy shadow lady were genuinely terrifying.  But sadly the movie just didn't really have much else to stand on besides an interesting concept. Much of this was due to over explanation and trying to wrap up every single plot thread in a perfect bow which left many logic holes that were frustrating.  We both recommend you keep the lights switched off for this one and skip for something better.

This week's Streaming Review has us watching our 2nd horror movie in honor of Halloween.  This week has us watching a remake/retelling or some sort of re, of the Blair Witch.  The original movie was one of Bat's favorites and we even watched it during one of our October Halloween streaming reviews (sadly it didn't hold up).  We will be watching this one on Amazon Prime, so if you want to possibly join the fright show check it out!

Episode 209: Colossal Mistake?

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we get together to review our streaming movie, Colossal, we talk about the lack of nerd news and answer this week's question of what is your favorite childhood game/toy commercial.

This week's Streaming Review was Colossal on Hulu.  This movie was a bit... weird.  Mainly because all of the trailers really pushed the comedy angle but kind of ignored the dark side of the movie.  And then there was the strange mistake where I read "Dark Comedy" as "Romantic Comedy" and looped my girlfriend into a strange ass ride.  Bat and I both agreed that without the fun quirk of giant monsters we would not have been nearly as invested.  The movie centers around an odd love triangle of people with various issues that it kind of fails to really dive into.  But, to be honest, I'm rather thankful for that.  As it is, the characters are strange and don't always seem to make sense with their motivations.  The jokes are few and far between and the charm of the movie rests solely in the monsters hands.  We give it a cautious recommendation but warn to not trust the trailers too much.

This week's Streaming Review has us catching up on a bit of our Halloween goodness.  That's right, we completely forgot that it's that magical time of year where we scare the shit out of me and watch 4 horror films.  To start us off we're watching Lights Out on HBOgo.  I can tell you I saw the trailer and I'm already regretting this decision.

Episode 208: Little Bittie Evil

I feel like we've apologized a lot recently for our numerous delays, but I really want to thank you all for being some of the best damn listeners we've ever had.  Seriously, you come back after all of our bad jokes and our lack of regularly scheduled shows.  So, with that said, welcome back to our ... on and off again... week in geek!  This week we get together to review our streaming movie, Little Evil, we talk about ACE Comic Con, the Pacific Rim: Uprising Trailer, some free shit good shit and answer this week's question of what is your favorite feature of DVDs.

This week's Streaming Review is the Netflix original, Little Evil. The heterolifemate had said he "dug" on this one but also said that it had him at Evangeline Lilly.  Unfortunately for us, it didn't really grab us at Evangeline, or at Adam Scott... or at much else.  We both enjoyed the gender ambiguous best friend but the rest of the movie kind of felt like an Adam Sandler movie without Sandler.  I jokingly called it a "comedy?" because it was extremely light on jokes and just seemed to take itself a little too seriously over all.  Not terrible but not great either.  We both recommend skipping out on this one and saving yourself some time.

This week's Streaming Review hits on a particular weak spot for Bat, Anne Hathaway.  So this week we're watching Colossal on Hulu
