Episode 198: Bayformers 5

Hello and welcome to this week in geek.  Bat and I lived up to our word and we both sat through the new Transformers movie, The Last Knight, and we survived with stories to tell. As per the usual we bring you both our spoiler free review a spoiler filled review at the end of our podcast.  We also review this week's streaming review of The Accountant and finally dive right into all of the E3 news and talk about what we're really excited for in the next year or two.  Also we have your answers from last week's podquestion of which Universal Monster Movie do you want to see next in the Dark Universe.

This week's recommendation was The Accountant on HBOgo. We heard a lot about Affleck's movie when it first came out of seemingly no where. We both really enjoyed this Wick-esque romp but did get lost in the intrigue of the main plot with the Medical company. Solid acting, good action and (besides the 'main' plot) a simple and easy to follow story makes this a worthwhile time investment.  We both gave this a thumbs up and would say it was worth the watch.

For our next week's recommendation we're watching Sully on HBOgo.  We love most anything Tom Hanks so we're both ready for a good movie.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 197: Summer Movie Preview PCC 2017 Panel

Hello and welcome to this mid-week in geek.  This last month Bat and I hosted a few panels at Phoenix Comic Con.  This panel you are about to listen to is our Summer Movie Preview.  During this panel we talked about the movies that were about to come out (before we had seen Wonder Woman and the Mummy) and had a lot of audience participation.  We also kind of got distracted by Split and talking about how damned amazing that movie was, because we had just watched it.  A little forewarning, the audio isn't the best and we didn't do a good job of repeating the questions and answers from the audience so it is a little rough.  That said we still wanted to make sure our annual episode celebrating our favorite time of year went unheard.

Thanks again for all that attended our panels and we look forward to hosting more in the near future... though we will be working on other ways to get some better audio quality.

Without further aduie, here is our panel from PCC 2017!

Episode 196: The Mum-meh

Hello and welcome to this week in geek.  Bat and I both got in the theaters to see this week's theatrical review of The Mummy and Bat was able to grab a showing of It Comes At Night.  We bring you our spoiler free reviews of both movies and a spoiler filled review of the Mummy at the end of our podcast.  We also review this week's streaming review of War Dogs and talk about the new Xbox X (silly name),  prepare ourselves for next week's E3 coverage, hear Bat's ass destroy a chair (see pictures below), The Black Panther and Absolutely Everything trailers and make a Smirnoff Ice bet about the opening weekend box office returns for Valerian and Dunkirk (see more below).  Also, we did not forget this time, we have your answers from last week's podquestion of what is your favorite movie snack.

Every now and then we make a Smirnoff Ice bet... and it looks like we have one soon!  The rules are simple, if Bat wins then I chug a Smirnoff Ice on bended knee for all of the internet to see.  If I win then he does.  If you can't tell, we're not particularly fond of these things so it's a punishment.  The bets are set and we will soon get to see the winner.

*Bat's Bet: Dunkirk will make 30 million more than Valerian on opening weekend.

*Hammer's Bet:  The spread will be less than 30 million (I'm no fool, Dunkirk is going to make more... I just don't think it will be THAT much more)

This week's recommendation was
War Dogs.  The movie itself is pretty standard affair.  You can guess the quick rise and the bad fall that these characters take as they get into the cut throat world of gun running.  There isn't much more beyond what you see in the trailer, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.  We both liked it well enough, it's not a stand out but it was fun for what it was.  More than anything, we want to know how much of this is blown out of proportion for the sake of movie magic.  Bat particularly likes Miles Teller, so any chance he can see him acting he is happy to give a shot.  We both would say it's a fun watch but not something to go out of your way to see.

This week's recommendation was my choice so we're watching The Accountant on HBOgo.

Episode 195: A Wonderful PCC Recap

Hello and welcome back and we have some stories to tell!  Which you may have guessed from this episodes length. This last week was Phoenix Comic Con and we have our full coverage and reactions from both Bat and myself.  We had 3 successful panels, thank you to all that attended, and we also got to see two movies.  One that lived up to it's titled and one that sunk at the box office.  We are only going to be giving a spoiler free of Baywatch but we will be giving Wonder Woman a spoiler free and spoiler filled review (spoilers at the end of the show).  We also are going to gush about Split and wrap everything up with some free shit good shit and our podquestion of... wait, no we didn't.  Sorry all we got so wrapped up in recapping the past two weeks that we got a distracted and forgot.  But next week we won't!

This week's recommendation of Split was mine, but really Bat and I couldn't hold off waiting for streaming to see this one.  Which, I can tell you now, was no mistake.  This movie is simply fantastic, though the main reason we say so is because of James McAvoy's acting.  We were floored by his performances as each of the personalities living in the antagonist's mind.  Watching him shift between characters so seamlessly was simply a treat to witness.  The story was enjoyable to, it had many of the familiar thriller tones that we used to expect from Shyamalan.  While this doesn't get the director back into his previous esteem, it does finally pull him out of his detention corner in our opinion.  The connections to Unbreakable (one of our absolute favorites) seemed added late in the game but was still a nice treat.  We both highly recommend you giving this one a chance and watch it as soon as you can.

This week's recommendation of
War Dogs comes from Bat.  This movie seemingly popped in and out of the theater with little to no fanfare but the trailer grabbed us.  You can watch along as we stream this week's movie through HBOgo.
