Episode 188: Go Go Power Rangers

Hello and welcome back!  For this week's show we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Power Rangers as well as our streaming review of Pete's Dragon.  We also dive into the new Justice League trailer and take a few, okay more than a few, minutes to discuss rage culture. We also have answers from this week's Podquestion of what was your favorite Disney song.

This week's Streaming review was the highly regarded remake of Pete's Dragon. This movie has us split down the middle.  Bat really enjoyed the movie and thought it had a lot of heart. But I just had a hard time connecting with this movie in general.  There were quite a few good actors in the flick and we both agreed that the kid who played Pete did a pretty good job.  We also both agreed that the Dragon's CGI was a little cheesy, but that may have been intentional.  Bat gave this movie a 3/5 while I gave it a 2/5.

This week's recommendation is my choice so I'm giving us something ridiculous.  We're going to be watching Keanu on HBOgo.  Key and Peel are on a mission to rescue a cat... and as you guessed it hi jinks ensue.  Here's to hoping for some fun comedy to keep us entertained.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 187: Beauty and the Excessive Body Haired Individual

Hello and welcome back!  This time we both were able to catch this week's theatrical release of Beauty and the Beast.  Since this is a tale as old as time we're just diving right into the spoilers on this one, mind you we really don't think there are too many.  We also review this week's streaming review of These Final Hours, talk some Nerd News and listen to Bat's Disneyland Vacation hi-jinks!  We also have answers from this week's Podquestion

This week's Streaming Suggestion, from out friend TK, was the Australian End of the world movie called These Final Hours.  I compared this movie to Seeking a Friend at the End of the World with both of the main characters seeking to find their place/purpose when their futures are decided for them.  This movie finds it's main "protagonist" as douche canoe person set on finding only self satisfaction.  But his journey is cut short when he comes to the aid of a young girl and reluctantly helps her find her father.  This whole journey is just a means to an end to show him that what he was afraid of, a real human connection, is what he really needed.  In the end we both rather enjoyed the journey and thought it was worth the watch and a nice reprieve of what we would normally choose to watch.  We each gave it a 3/5 but wouldn't seek a repeat viewing.

This week's recommendation comes from Bat.  Since we are apparently in the mood of Disney remakes we're going to be watching one that we didn't catch in theaters, Pete's Dragon.  This movie can be found on Netflix if you care to seek out this imaginary friend.

Episode 186: Little Kong Action

Hello and welcome back!  And this time it's for a snack sized episode.  I wasn't able to join Bat on the adventure with Kong Skull Island but he brings us his spoiler free review and we also get to talk about this week's streaming review of The Visit.  Since there isn't too much in terms of news we discuss what we're playing and talk about Horizon: Zero Dawn, Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Ghost Recon: Wild Lands... wow that is a lot of colons.  Also this time we remember to actually ask a podquestion, aren't you proud of us? I know I am.

This week we watched the suspense driven The Visit.  We had both wanted to see this movie when it came out in theaters and heard good things about it.  But we completely missed the boat.  I can say that we were pleasantly surprised.  This movie really felt like a return to the old Shyamalan films that we really fell in love with.  While not perfect it was a really enjoyable movie.  Not as many frights but it had plenty of edge of your seat moments and an ending that neither of us saw coming.  If you have avoided the spoilers this long I won't ruin them for you but we both recommend giving this 3/5 movie a watch.  Now we just need to go see Switch!

This week's recommendation comes from our listener TK.  Thanks you him we are watching These Final Hours on Netflix.  The movie has post apocalyptic feel about it that we just can't resist.  Feel free to join in and give this one a watch.

Episode 185: Old Man Logan

Hello and welcome back!  Sorry for the lack of last week's episode but life called and we picked up.  Since we did see Get Out last week but didn't record and we also saw Logan this week we're going to be giving both movies spoiler free reviews but only giving Logan a spoiler filled one.  We also have The Nice Guys for our streaming review as well as a few news and release reactions.  I know, we take a week off and everything happens to come out.  We also have this month's Free Shit Good Shit and our podquestion... though we forget to ask a new one.  I blame the late night recording as a reason.

This week I had us watch The Nice Guys.  when you listen to us both try to describe the plot of the movie you quickly realize a glaring problem, the story.  This movie takes so many turns and tries to wear so many hats that it quickly gets convoluted of who's looking for who and who all died.  while there is some chemistry between Crowe and Gosling I just couldn't bring myself to really care much about any of it.  It's not horrible, it's just not great.  Perfect for a streaming review but would have been a big disappointment in the theater.  We both gave this one a 3/5 but wouldn't really push you to go see it.

This week's recommendation is another one of those movies that we just missed out in theaters.  We're watching The Visit on HBOgo.  It sounds like Shyamalan is making a comeback and we're eager to get into this "new" movie.

For last week's Podquestion we wanted to know what your favorite Shakespeare adaptation

Hammer             - The Bride (from Kill Bill)
Bat                     -  The Terminator
TK                      -  Anton Chigurh (from No Country for Old Men)
Pajamazon         - O-ren Ishii

For next week's podquestion we ... well we totally forgot to ask one.  But I guess that's what you get when you do a late night podcast.
