Episode 218: Krylo a River

Welcome back to a very special week in geek.  The day is finally here, we just watched Star Wars The Last Jedi and we are ready to dive right in and talk about everything under two suns.  While we don't do these often we wanted to continue to tradition of doing a midnight release and next day post for our beloved Wars.  Just a big of a warning, there is about 15 minutes of this movie that is spoiler free  but the rest of this podcast is all spoiler all the time.  So if you don't want the movie ruined or haven't seen it yet don't listen past 15 minutes 10 seconds.  With that out of the way please listen to our in depth review with our guests Sarah and TK.

Also with next week being Christmas we most likely will be taking a break for weekly posting to sit back and enjoy time with our families and friends.  If that's the case, both Bat and I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to podcasting for you soon.

Below you will find this week's most recent podcast.  But fear not, you can click these links to listen to this and past week's podcast in iTunes or Sticher.  We also have the past 2-3 episodes available on SoundCloud.

For next week's Podquestion we want you to find a new name for our future Comic Con's (they can't use Comic-Con or Comic Convention).
You can send us your answers to this weeks question as well as any questions you'd like to submit to Facebook, Twitter or email us at Batandhammer@gmail.com.

That is all for this week's Blogcast.  Be sure to tune in next year. Same Hammer Time, same Bat Channel.

Episode 217: I Before E

Welcome back to our week in geek!  This week was going to be a slow news week but then we were blessed with an unexpected geek storm.  We discuss the new possible Fox acquisition by Disney, SDCC winning it's case against SLCC, we talk about the new Jurassic and Alita trailers, review this week's streaming suggestion of Me Before You and answer this week's question of who is your favorite Disney Animated Villain.

This week's streaming review was Me Before You on Amazon Prime.  we were split in our opinion of this one.  Where Bat couldn't find himself invested in the characters and left the movie pretty apathetic, I was right on board for the emotion train.  There is a distinct feel for UK cast that, while not 'big' stars, they deliver some solid performances.  Bat will not recommend this one but I will.

This week's streaming review is supposed to be another emotional drama as we watch
The Big Sick.  I recommended this one mainly for my love of the Geeky Husband/Wife podcast that Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon used tot do along with Nerdist.  This movie is based around how the found and fell in love with each other in real life.  You can watch this one on Amazon Prime.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 216: Bossy Babies

Welcome back to our week in geek!  This week we bring you another streamlined week in geek by discussing the new Avengers Trailer, Justice League feedback, review this week's streaming suggestion of Boss Baby and answer this week's question of what is your favorite Sci-Fi Comedy TV series.

This week's streaming review was Boss Baby on Netflix.  This movie was a bit of a surprise.  We both were hesitant at watching this movie and even avoided seeing it in the theaters but heard quite a bit of good word of mouth.  The comedy is snappy, the animation is clean and the story is interesting (even if a little predictable).  There is plenty of sight gags and silly jokes for young ones but quite a bit of adult humor for everyone else.  We both really enjoyed how the movie was seen through the imaginative eyes of  6-7 year old.  Plenty of scenes of underwater exploration, ninja attacks or even space adventures dazzled and entertained.  We both enjoyed our time with this strange movie and give it a thumbs up.

This week's streaming review we are going to need our tissues as we watch You Before Me
on Amazon Prime.  I don't know much else but what Bat described on the podcast... but it really sounds like it's going to hit us right in the emotion button.

Episode 215: Absolutely Nothing

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we bring you a streamlined week in geek. which is our way of saying there's not much news to be had.  We wrap up some black friday experiences, celebrate me finally joining the PS4 bandwagon, discuss this week's streaming review of Absolutely Anything and answer this week's question of who is your favorite Justice League member.

This week's streaming review was Absolutely Anything. the movie features a rather large and notable cast but really fails to do much with any of them.  Many of the well known actors are relegated to Voice work for some unimaginative and rather boring CG characters.  The movie failed to elicit much laughter from either of us and the writing itself was rather mediocre.  While we didn't expect great things, we were both hoping for a more fun "monkey's paw" tale but were instead left with a rather boring tale that failed to deliver any notable chuckles.  While we don't hate the movie we also would not recommend giving it a watch.  Pass on this one in favor of better comedies out there.

With this week's streaming review we are watching Boss Baby on Netflix.  Neither of us were very excited to see this movie but it received surprisingly good reviews so we're going to give it a shot.

Episode 214: Just-Us League

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we bring you our spoiler-free and spoiler filled review of Justice League.  We also discuss some nerd news along with our streaming review of Purge: Election Year along with answering this week's question of what is your favorite movie to watch for Thanksgiving.

This week's streaming review was one of our long awaiting requests, The Purge: Election Year.  Boy are we happy to finally able to watch this one on streaming.  Bat and I have said that while we didn't particularly enjoy the first movie we thought the concept was interesting.  With the second movie we got to dive further into the mythos and change the movie into more of an action flick.  This final (maybe?) movie ties all 3 movies together while providing even more depth to the world and providing a satisfying, if not somewhat ambiguous, conclusion.  We both had  a good time and would recommend this movie to any Purge fan out there.  Give this one a watch and you won't be disappointed.

With this week's streaming review we are watching the Simon Pegg version of Bruce Almighty, Absolutely Anything.  Also known as one of the last roles of Robin Williams we're not too sure how well this movie is going to do under our viewing as it received a complete lack of press.  Here's to hoping we get a few laughs out of this movie as we watch it on Netflix.

Episode 213: Just Kidding Around

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we bring you truncated episode as I put us on a little bit of a time crunch.  We also are joined by Bat's little one as our special guest star.  While we wait for Justice League next week we review out streaming review of The Voice, talk about the slew of new Star War news, discuss our experiences with Fanfest, and answer this week's question of what is your favorite Disney ride.

Our fourth and final Halloween Streaming Review was The Void.  This suggestion came from one of our friends who absolutely adores horror movies and he highly recommended this one.  But neither Bat nor I can really see why.  We see a lot of opportunity and cool concepts in this movie but none of them really coalesce into anything.  We are left instead with a disjointed movie that left us more confused that scared.  It was hard to keep invested in this one and we both find it hard to recommend this experiment to anyone else.

With this week's streaming review we get back to basics...well sort of.  We get back to normal streaming reviews, and this one in particular has been on our radar for a long time.  Come watch The Purge: Election Year with us on HBOgo and join in on the fun.

Episode 212: Asgardians of the Galaxy

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we bring you our Spoiler free and Spoiler filled review of Thor Ragnarok as well as some Playstation Plus Free Shit Good Shit,  discuss our streaming movie, The Babysitter and answer this week's question of what was your favorite Halloween costume from when you were a kid.

Our third Halloween Streaming Review was the Netflix original The Babysitter.  This movie is best described as a gory Home Alone. While not bad, it is also not very good.  It's that middling quality of production we've come to expect from Netflix originals.  It starts with a good concept but it is poorly executed.  Much in need of some editing and tightening up, this movie flounders and never fully finds its ground.  Bat gave it a hesitant thumbs up but I can't really recommend it and suggest you pass.

This week's Streaming Review has us watching our 3rd horror movie in honor of Halloween.  This week has us watching The Void from a fan suggestion by Jim.  We know nothing about the movie but know Jim's penchant for campy and serious horror, from the trailer it looks like we're in store for the latter.  Join us by watching this movie on Netflix.

Episode 211: Fake Episode 210

Welcome back to our  week in geek!  This week we get a little distracted and talk about random stuff, discuss our streaming movie,Blair Witch, and answer this week's question of which AI companion would you choose.

Our Second Halloween Streaming Review was the Blair Witch.  The original movie was one of Bat's favorites but sadly this one is definitely not.  To be honest it's not really my favorite either. With the shaky cam and cheap jump scares we felt like this movie really squandered its opportunity to be a really enjoyable ride.  We talk for a pretty long while about how we really enjoy the ambiance and the setting and how we would work to "fix" the movie but alas we are left with what we have here.  Which is a pretty "meh" horror flick.  We suggest skipping this one for something better.

This week's Streaming Review has us watching our 3rd horror movie in honor of Halloween.  This week has us watching another Netflix original The Babysitter.  This Hor-Omedy, as Bat put it, reminds us a little bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and gives me a nice respite from further horrific movies.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.
