Episode 177: I Am A Horrible Friend

Hello and seasons greetings from your festive hosts, Bat and Hammer.  It's that time of year, meaning the end of it, that we take a look back on the movies (both streaming and theatrical) and games that brought us joy and pain.  Bat gets to surprise me with a gift that proves I'm a horrible friend and then we get to wrap up this year's last podcast with a silly podquestion.

We want to thank all of our listeners for another year of listening to our antics and responding in kind.  We appreciate that more that you may realize and look forward to another year of spreading the cheer, in podcast form at least.

This week's streaming review of Batman: The Killing Joke  was Bat's choice.  We were both looking forward to seeing this movie, I even talked about seeing it in the theaters.  It has the classic voices of Batman and Joker (Conroy and Hamill) and has one of the most famous, and controversial, story lines.  But alas, I just couldn't get into this one.  Bat enjoyed it more than myself but we both were confused about the extended prologue with Paris France and just felt it went on too long.  The animation is good and the voice acting is pretty damn spiffy.  But over all the movie just left me hanging, but not in a good way.  Bat gave this a 3/5 while I gave it a 2/5. See it if you must but there are plenty of other great Batman stories out there.

Next week's streaming review of Kindergarten Cop 2 is Bat's choice... this is how we end out the year with a bang I guess.  We both love the first one and are not really expecting anything from the second one.  But this might set the tone for the year but setting our expectations low so, won't you join us?  You can see this movie no Netflix.

The year is almost over but you can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 176: Rouge Juan

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. This week Bat and I get to review the long awaited Rogue One (not Rouge dang it).  Hell we have been waiting for this movie for some time and it feels like it kind of snuck up on us.  As usual we bring first cover our spoiler free review and then at the end of the show we give our spoiler filled review, so stay tuned.  We also talk a little nerd news along with some of what we're playing and our streaming review of Yoga Hosers.

This week we watched the newest Kevin Smith movie, Yoga Hosers. Now before we begin, this movie is bad... not fun bad, just bad.  We both really like Kevin Smith and enjoy his humor but feel like this movie just falls flat on its face.  The jokes never really land, non-nonsensical story and uninteresting characters leave much to be desired.  I guess Bat put it best when he said this movie "just wasn't any fun."  Unlike Tusk, where we said the first half to 2/3 of the movie was pretty decent, this one just doesn't give us a reason to recommend it to anyone.  We both gave this a 1/5 and advise you to steer clear of it and invest your time somewhere else.

Next week's streaming review of Batman: The Killing Joke  is Bat's choice... surprise, surprise.  This comic story arc is one of the most prolific of Batman's history and we can't wait to set our eyes upon it.  Though we have some worries as the reception to this movie has been very hot or cold, depending on the audience.  If you want to join us as we watch the Caped Crusader's newest adventure you can find this movie on HBOgo.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 175: 4 years and counting

Hello and a welcome back to your actually-regularly scheduled week in geek. This week Bat and I talk about Bat's poor experiences with getting his Xbone as well as this round of Geeky trailer releases.  We also cover this week's streaming review of Finest Hours.

This week we watched the daring coastguard rescue movie, Finest Hours. This movie kind of slipped in and out of the Theaters before we noticed.  Though the acting and the sound are on point the movie doesn't really hit it's stride until the actual rescue gets on it's way.  Bat said the CG really took him out of it and wasn't fond of the accents either.  While my main issue was with the movies intro and back story.  They were a little too convoluted and, as Bat points out, they repeat it 3 or 4 times. Even with our issues we both gave this movie 3/5 stars and think that it's worth the time spent.

Next week's streaming review of Yoga Hosers is my choice.  This is another Kevin Smith movie that we should probably not watch, but here we are.  This movie can be found on Netflix.

Episode 174: We Forgot To Hit Record

Hello and a welcome back to your some-what-regularly scheduled week in geek. This week Bat and I talk a bit of what we're playing with Bat's impressions of FF15 and my impressions of Battlefield 1. We also talk about Playstation experience including the big announcement of Last of Us 2.  No theatrical review this week just our streaming review of Siege of Jadotville.

This week's streaming review of Siege of Jadotville came from our friend Mando.  This Netflix original was based on the true story of Irish Solders who were deployed as UN Peacekeepers in the Congo during the Cold War. Bat wasn't too fond of the movie overall due to rough Irish accents and the lack of info regarding the "why" of the battle.  I overall enjoyed the movie for the action and drama but can definitely agree with Bat that there was more direction needed to explain why this location in particular was important.  I gave this one a 3/5 while Bat gave it a 2/5.  Enjoyable but not great.

Next week's streaming review of Finest Hours is Bats choice.  This movie can be found on Netflix.
