Episode 169: Late Night Editing is the Worst

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. Sorry but going to keep this short and honest, it's a bit late and I'm tired.  Don't push off editing till the last minute, it never ends well.  But you know what ends well?  This podcast, okay we do skew quite a bit into real world stuff but before that we have plenty of bullshittery.  No theatrical review this week but we do have our Third Halloween movie review with Knock Knock as well as some geeky nerd news.

Our third streaming Horror movie of  Knock Knockwas my choice.  And wow was it a bit of a strange ride.  Full disclosure, Bat was unable to finish this review due to us forgetting the EpixHD app is crap.  I did finish it, thank you PC. The first 1/3 of the movie starts off like a bad porno (especially Keanu's acting) and then the last 2/3 of the movie is all about mental and physical torture.  Now my biggest frustration was that the killing of the family friend felt really out of place for where the rest of the movie went.  Besides that it was a pretty decent movie, not great and not a repeat watch, but it was alright.  I gave it a 3/5 stars but I wouldn't press anyone to go out of their way to watch it.

Next up we're going to be watching Bat's suggestion of Zombeavers.. This movie centers around ....Zombie Beavers. Yup. This one can be found on Netflix if you have it.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 168: Just think of the Posse-Bilities

Hello and a welcome back to your slightly delayed week in geek. Also, pay no attention to what Bat says, this is totally episode 168... not episode 167.  Just in case you were confused by what you're hearing versus what you're reading.  No theatrical review this week but we do have our second Halloween movie review with The Gallows as well as some geeky nerd news including: The Nintendo Switch, Logan trailer review, Guardians Vol 2 Trailer review and Red Dead trailer review.  Yep, it's a shite ton of trailers to talk about.

Our second streaming Horror movie was from one of our fans Kristi, and she choose
The Gallows.  While both of us were pretty lukewarm on this movie we gave it a watch.  I think I came out of it more positive than Bat honestly.  There were plenty of scares, both of the jump and skin crawling kind.  I thought this movie evoked the otherworldly feel of movies like Silent hill and Grave Encounters which surprised me.  The movie isn't great, but it's a solid watch and makes the most of a low budget, small cast and rather silly concept.  While you won't be missing out on too much if you don't see this movie we both felt that you would find yourself entertained.  We both gave it a 3/5.

Next up we're going to be watching my suggestion of Knock Knock. This movie centers around Keanu letting in 2 ladies from a storm, sexy things happen... and then it gets weird.  We both talked about seeing this one in the theaters but never got around to it so this makes perfect fodder for October's streaming suggestions.  This one can be found on EpixHD if you have it.

You can suggest our final horror themed streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 167: The Not-So-Great Salt Lake Comic Con Adventure

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. Halloween is coming up fast and so are the scary movie reviews!  At long last we have get Rader's recounting of his Salt Lake City Comic Con adventures. We also discuss the recent trailer releases with Rouge One, John Wick 2 and Power Rangers.

Our first streaming Horror movie was Bat's choice, Hush. This movie was very much in the vein of movies like Don't Breath.  The concept sold us both pretty quickly with the idea of a Deaf author (who naturally lives in the middle of nowhere) who is terrorized by a psychopathy.  We both really thought the use of silence was well done and the movie over all was pretty good. Not great but still worth the watch, both of us gave it a 3/5.

Next up we're going to be watching a fan suggestion, Kirsti's choice of The Gallows. This movie's trailer was pretty bad and did the opposite of selling us on this movie.  So much so that we never got around to seeing it.  But we're going to be rectifying this soon enough.  Hopefully this movie has a few surprises, though with those abysmal ratings I don't expect too much.
