Episode 162: This Shit Ain't Right

Welcome back everyone to your week in geek.  Slow news day, and busy pre con week for Bat so we take it easy this episode and discuss the good oll wholesome world of the internet....  That is to say we discuss why the internet can be such a shitty place to people and see if we can find a reason for it.  This conversation is spurred on by the recent internet tolling/harassing/hacking of Leslie Jones. From the horrible filth that spewed out on twitter post Ghostbusters release(IndieWire Article) to the recent nude photos being stolen (NY Daily News Article), we discuss the horrible nature of the anonymity of the web.  For those curious about the Video that Bat references with the female sportscasters here it is (it starts off light hearted but quickly gets to the harsh reality).

Last week's streaming review Stranger Things Episode 1. The first episode had a hell of a lot more jump scares than I expected honestly.  Though I think that was mostly just me, though Bat's wife Sarah agreed that it was spooky.  The tone over all was enjoyable and definitely was steeped in that 80's nostalgia.  We get our introduction to the main group of kid heroes (I'm assuming) as well as the mysterious girl, Eleven.  Beyond some beautifully shot scenes we really were only treated to some teasing of what's to come, what a pilot should really be.  But I sense there is some fun stuff on the horizon.  While it didn't completely wow either of us, Bat said it was no Lost, we are both in this for the long haul.  Look forward to our review of the next episode in a week or two as Bat will be taking next week off.

Since we're only 1 episode in feel free to join in on the episodic experience and discussion.

Last week Bat asked if you could turn any comic strip(not comic book) into a movie which one would you choose.

Bat                             Calvin and Hobbs
Hammer                     Calvin and Hobbs
Kristi                           Beetle Bailey
Mando                        Beetle Bailey
TK                              The Least I Could Do

For next week's Podquestion I want to know what's your favorite 80's group adolescence movie (Bat is already hating this question)?

You can send us your answers to this weeks question as well as any questions you'd like to submit to Facebook, Twitter or email us at Batandhammer@gmail.com.

That is all for this week's Blogcast.  Be sure to tune in next week. Same Hammer Time, same Bat Channel...but maybe with a guest due to Bat's absence.

Episode 161: Good Grief

Welcome back everyone to your regularly scheduled week in geek.  This is one of those good o'll slow news weeks which means you, my dear friends, get a whole heaping helping of Bat and Hammer bullshitting.  But don't fret, it's the good kind of bs.  With so little happening with in the nerd world (that we were paying attention to at least) we talk about the future of gaming and what we want from it and what we expect.  We also talk about this weeks streaming review and go over our podquestion.

Last week's streaming review was The Peanuts Movie.  And I gotta say... what a disappointment it was.  I heard so much love for this movie that I was expecting a pretty fun romp, maybe even something that would sell me on the Peanuts for once.  But what I was left with was a rather bland tale with pretty minimal humor.  Bat said that he wished that they had taken out the Red Barron parts, stating that it detracted from the stronger main story.  But I have to disagree with him, I was just bored.  That isn't to say it's a horrible movie, just maybe not my type of movie. Then again we both are vocal about not being big Peanuts...nuts?  We both gave this one a 2/5, thinking you could better spend your time else where and avoid the not so good grief.

Next week's streaming review is going to take us on a little bit of an adventure as we start our first Streaming Series review with Stranger Things. This little Netflix original series has been getting a hell of a lot of buzz and the look and feel of the show seems to borrow heavily from the 80's nostalgia we we so dearly love.  We're starting with just episode 1 but may try to fit in 2 episodes per a podcast if we can swing it.  If you want to watch along then make sure to join on in!

Episode 160: Star Trek Above and Beyond

Welcome back everyone to your regularly scheduled week in geek.  We're back on schedule and this week we tackled another summer release, Star Trek Beyond.  We also discuss this weeks streaming review of Straight Outta Compton, our Podquestion and Nerd News: Black Manta's reveal, Playstation Neo, No Mans Sky review, Warner Brothers open letter and an update on Making a Murder.

Last week's streaming review was Straight Outta Compton.  And holy shit was this a hell of a movie.  Running at over 2 and a half hours this movie was packed with some serious acting and whole shit ton of awesome music.  Watching this movie was a bit of unexpected nostalgia.  Simply because I didn't realize how much I really listened to so much of this music and how much of an impact it all really had.  This movie hits on so many topics so well and many of these are just coming to the surface again.   I gave it a 5/5 and Bat gave it a 4/5 but W\we both loved this movie and would highly recommend anyone watching it if they get the chance.  No, screw that, make the time, watch this movie.

Next week's streaming review is way more vanilla with us watching The Peanuts Movie.    You can find this one on HBOgo and please feel free to send us your reviews.
