Episode 150: The Hemsworth: Huntsman's War

Welcome my back my friends, to another episode of SzG!  Holy shit it's episode 150... that snuck up on us fast.  3 and a half years later and we're still chugging along and this weeks episode if filled with plenty of laughs though pretty minimal fanfare.  It's just us being us, and we've never been happier about it.  I just want to thank all of you listeners, new and old, for feeding into this wonderfully geeky endeavor for so long.  We look forward to more episodes and more shenanigans to come.  Now with the sentimental stuff behind me, for now, let get onto this week where we have our theatrical review of The Huntsman: Winter's War and more tidbits of nerd news: unofficial official document leak of PS Neo, William Dafoe cast in Justice League, New ID4 Trailer, Tony Stark in Spiderman movie and Marvel's Inhumans movie looses it's release date.

We also have our streaming review of The Purge: Anarchy and our 8th and last (for now) episode review of Making a Murder.  We will be switching over to Game of Thrones for now and will also be moving these series reviews (quickies) to be released on this same feed on another night TBD.

This weeks streaming suggestion was The Purge: Anarchy.  We watched the previous movie and asked that we see more of the world and what happens in it and that's pretty much what we got.  Far from a horror movie and much more of a gorey action flick.  This Purge movie, while not great, does provide a...fun?... look into this effed up world.  We both really enjoyed a look into the wider universe and how the world as a whole reacts to the purge.  But Bat brought up a good point of now we want to see a tighter and maybe even a smaller story for the third one now that we have a scope to work with.  One way or another we will be ready to watch the 3rd one once it's out on streaming, but for this movie we gave it a 3/5.

Next week's movie review was chosen because of the stars and the premise.  Moonwalkers stars Rupert Grint and Ron Perlman in a movie about people who were hired to fake the moon landing... yup.  I'm sold.  This movie can be found on Netflix.

Episode 149: Just like my love life

Welcome my back with another episode of SzG.  This week we have our theatrical review of Jungle Book and some new trailer releases and bits of nerd news to cover: Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts trailers, Spiderman standalone title, Ghost in the Shell first images and rumors of new God of War set to Norse Mythology.   We also have out streaming review of I Am Santa Claus and the 7th episode of Making a Murder.

This weeks streaming suggestion was I Am Santa Claus.  This story centered on 5 Mall Santas on their life outside of Christmas including Mick Foley.  The movie provided an interesting behind the scenes look into who these people are and why they do what they do.  Both of us wish it has  a bit more Mick Foley, mainly because he's a really interesting person.  But we split on our rating of this movie.  I gave it 2/5 because I really liked the concept but thought the execution and editing was a bit lack luster.  Bat enjoyed it a bit more (he said it's because he has a heart) and gave it a 3/5.

Next streaming suggestion is a sequel to the Purge(which we reviewed back on Episode 72). The Purge: Anarchy is set in the same universe as the first movie but is doing what we asked before, it goes out into the world during the purge.  We're both pretty excited to get a bit more of this effed up world and hope it doesn't disappoint.  You can find this one on HBOgo.

Episode 148: So fucking close to 150

Welcome my back with another episode of SzG.  This week we have some tiny bits of nerd news to cover: Netflix to simulcast it's first anime, New teaser poster for Kingsman 2 and that amazing Rogue One trailer.  We also have out streaming review of Batkid Begins and the next episode of Making a Murder,

This weeks streaming suggestion of Batkid Begins didn't quite have us in tears but we both really enjoyed showing.  This documentary is much more about the process of setting up Miles' wish and how it became a viral phenomenon.  Even still though there were a few parts that got each of us misty eyed.  We also loved seeing how many people chipped in just to help this kid get his wish of being batman for a day.  It really is a fun story and While I gave it a 4/5 and Bat gave it a 3/5, we both recommend you sitting down and watching this movie.

Next streaming suggestion is mine and it may be a strange one.  I Am Santa Claus follows the year round lives of 4 Mall Santas as well as the transformation of Mick Foley into joining their rank.

Episode 147: The League That Could Have Been

Welcome my back with another episode of SzG.  This week we have a few bits of nerd news and out streaming review of Justice League: War.

This weeks streaming suggestion is my choice and damn if I didn't make a good choice. Watching Justice League: War just reminded me that DC really has their animated films on lockdown.  The quality is top notch and they are generally a joy to watch.  With this movie shows a version of the first meeting of the Justice League and Darkseid.  Over all I think Bat and myself both walked away from this wishing they had tried making this into a live action movie.  The story is strong and really besides Cyborg, no one has an origin story and we were completely okay with that.  The action is great and the interactions between the characters was wonderful. In short give this one a watch right away, you won't be disappointed.  We both gave it a solid 5/5.

Next streaming suggestion is really from both of us, Batkid Begins.  We're really sticking with this DC theme it seems.  But yeah... be prepared to cry.  I know we both are.
