Episode 177: I Am A Horrible Friend

Hello and seasons greetings from your festive hosts, Bat and Hammer.  It's that time of year, meaning the end of it, that we take a look back on the movies (both streaming and theatrical) and games that brought us joy and pain.  Bat gets to surprise me with a gift that proves I'm a horrible friend and then we get to wrap up this year's last podcast with a silly podquestion.

We want to thank all of our listeners for another year of listening to our antics and responding in kind.  We appreciate that more that you may realize and look forward to another year of spreading the cheer, in podcast form at least.

This week's streaming review of Batman: The Killing Joke  was Bat's choice.  We were both looking forward to seeing this movie, I even talked about seeing it in the theaters.  It has the classic voices of Batman and Joker (Conroy and Hamill) and has one of the most famous, and controversial, story lines.  But alas, I just couldn't get into this one.  Bat enjoyed it more than myself but we both were confused about the extended prologue with Paris France and just felt it went on too long.  The animation is good and the voice acting is pretty damn spiffy.  But over all the movie just left me hanging, but not in a good way.  Bat gave this a 3/5 while I gave it a 2/5. See it if you must but there are plenty of other great Batman stories out there.

Next week's streaming review of Kindergarten Cop 2 is Bat's choice... this is how we end out the year with a bang I guess.  We both love the first one and are not really expecting anything from the second one.  But this might set the tone for the year but setting our expectations low so, won't you join us?  You can see this movie no Netflix.

The year is almost over but you can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 176: Rouge Juan

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. This week Bat and I get to review the long awaited Rogue One (not Rouge dang it).  Hell we have been waiting for this movie for some time and it feels like it kind of snuck up on us.  As usual we bring first cover our spoiler free review and then at the end of the show we give our spoiler filled review, so stay tuned.  We also talk a little nerd news along with some of what we're playing and our streaming review of Yoga Hosers.

This week we watched the newest Kevin Smith movie, Yoga Hosers. Now before we begin, this movie is bad... not fun bad, just bad.  We both really like Kevin Smith and enjoy his humor but feel like this movie just falls flat on its face.  The jokes never really land, non-nonsensical story and uninteresting characters leave much to be desired.  I guess Bat put it best when he said this movie "just wasn't any fun."  Unlike Tusk, where we said the first half to 2/3 of the movie was pretty decent, this one just doesn't give us a reason to recommend it to anyone.  We both gave this a 1/5 and advise you to steer clear of it and invest your time somewhere else.

Next week's streaming review of Batman: The Killing Joke  is Bat's choice... surprise, surprise.  This comic story arc is one of the most prolific of Batman's history and we can't wait to set our eyes upon it.  Though we have some worries as the reception to this movie has been very hot or cold, depending on the audience.  If you want to join us as we watch the Caped Crusader's newest adventure you can find this movie on HBOgo.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

For last week's Podquestion Bat wanted to know what now-defunct band would want to see perform again.

Hammer             - Metalica (sorry, couldn't think of a good answer)
Bat                     - Rage Against the Machine
Heterolifemate   - Pink Floyd
TK                      - Sublime

Episode 175: 4 years and counting

Hello and a welcome back to your actually-regularly scheduled week in geek. This week Bat and I talk about Bat's poor experiences with getting his Xbone as well as this round of Geeky trailer releases.  We also cover this week's streaming review of Finest Hours.

This week we watched the daring coastguard rescue movie, Finest Hours. This movie kind of slipped in and out of the Theaters before we noticed.  Though the acting and the sound are on point the movie doesn't really hit it's stride until the actual rescue gets on it's way.  Bat said the CG really took him out of it and wasn't fond of the accents either.  While my main issue was with the movies intro and back story.  They were a little too convoluted and, as Bat points out, they repeat it 3 or 4 times. Even with our issues we both gave this movie 3/5 stars and think that it's worth the time spent.

Next week's streaming review of Yoga Hosers is my choice.  This is another Kevin Smith movie that we should probably not watch, but here we are.  This movie can be found on Netflix.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Mando                -Gundam Pilot

Episode 174: We Forgot To Hit Record

Hello and a welcome back to your some-what-regularly scheduled week in geek. This week Bat and I talk a bit of what we're playing with Bat's impressions of FF15 and my impressions of Battlefield 1. We also talk about Playstation experience including the big announcement of Last of Us 2.  No theatrical review this week just our streaming review of Siege of Jadotville.

This week's streaming review of Siege of Jadotville came from our friend Mando.  This Netflix original was based on the true story of Irish Solders who were deployed as UN Peacekeepers in the Congo during the Cold War. Bat wasn't too fond of the movie overall due to rough Irish accents and the lack of info regarding the "why" of the battle.  I overall enjoyed the movie for the action and drama but can definitely agree with Bat that there was more direction needed to explain why this location in particular was important.  I gave this one a 3/5 while Bat gave it a 2/5.  Enjoyable but not great.

Next week's streaming review of Finest Hours is Bats choice.  This movie can be found on Netflix.

Episode 173: Two Movies and a Podcast

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. This Thanksgiving week Bat and I sort of split duty and we each caught two theatrical releases today with Bat seeing Bad Santa 2 and me watching Moana.  Since neither of us saw both films we keep to spoiler free reviews only.  We also discuss our streaming review of American Ultra and talk brief nerd news and black Friday experiences.

This week's streaming review of American Ultra was my choice.  Sadly Bat had some issues with streaming this one so our review is mostly from my perspective.  I went into this movie expecting a stoner Borne movie hybrid and what I got was a little more serious than I expected.  Not bad, but also not great.  This movie is your stereotypical Super Spy project who had his mind wiped... Let the fact that is a movie type sink in.  It made me laugh a few times but over all it was a lot more serious than I expected it to be.  I gave it a 3/5, again nothing great but it was a fun flick.

Next week's streaming review of Siege of Jadotville comes from our friend Mando.  This Netflix original movie can be found on... you guessed it, Netflix.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 172: Fantastic Fandoms and Where to Find Them

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. The trek towards Rouge One continues as we hit the theaters again this week to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.  The follow up... well pre-follow up to Harry Potter franchise is out and its got a whole other side of the wizarding world to show us.  Is it worth the price of apparition?  Well listen in to find out. We also do a little movie trailer round up as we discuss the new Kong and Valerian movie trailers.  We wrap up this week with our belated (due to me) streaming review of No Country for Old Men.

Our belated streaming review, brought to us by Mando, was the Coen Brother's No Country for Old Men.  While this movie is highly love by many of the people we both know, we just didn't get it.  Not to say its a bad or great movie, it's just a movie that doesn't really feel like is has any sense of closure.  We do talk a bit about how we enjoy movies that are open ended or ambiguous, but still these movies justify their purposes by having some sort of ending.  This one to me feels like the whole story of Bardem and Brolin's characters is just a footnote for Tommy Lee Jones' life.  It's strange and doesn't always make sense, but it does have some cool scenes.  Over all I think we both left feeling a bit miffed with Bat giving it 3/5 and me only giving it 2/5.  If you do want to watch it, you will most likely only be watching it once.

Since next week's streaming review is my choice I picked American Ultra.  This movie looked to be a stoned Borne sort of movie that we both missed in the theaters and it looks like perfect fodder for streaming reviews.  You can watch this one with us on Hulu.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Episode 171: Arriving at the Beginning of the End

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. We are back in the theaters again, this time we watch The Arrival.  This is the winter alien movie that genuinely surprised Bat and myself.  We provide you our usual spoiler free review followed by our spoiler filled review, so stay tuned.  Normally we would also provide you our streaming review of No Country for Old Men.  But I had a senior moment and completely forgot to watch the movie.  That means you all have another week to catch up if you want to join in the Cohen Brothers action.  We wrap up the show with a little talk about current events.

Still up for our streaming review is  Mando's suggestion, from a while back, of No Country for Old Men.  This is another one of the Coen Brother's movies that neither of us have seen.  But we soon will.  You can watch along with us on Netlfix.

Episode 170: Mr. Doctor

Hello and a welcome back to your regularly scheduled week in geek. It's so strange that now, seemingly out of no where, there are a whole lot of movies out that we want to see.  This week we went out to see Doctor Strange, and we provide a spoiler free and spoiler filled review,  We also bring you our streaming review of Zombeavers, and dive into what little news we have.  Mainly surrounding the new Wonder Woman trailer, please god let this movie be good.

Our fourth and final streaming Horror movie of October was Zombeavers. We knew going into this movie that it was going to be banking heavily on cheese, but sadly there wasn't much else to back this movie up besides that cheese.  There was beaver jokes galore and some mild nudity but we both felt that this movie didn't really have the "fun" factor that these lower budget horror or spoof horror movies have.  There characters weren't really likable nor were the enjoyable to watch.  It all made for a movie that felt more of a chore to watch than it was for enjoyment.  We both gave it 2/5, though we think that's being overly gracious.  Don't waste your time on this one, you're not really missing anything.

Next up we're going to be watching Mando's suggestion, from a while back, of No Country for Old Men.  This is another one of the Coen Brother's movies that neither of us have seen.  But we soon will.  You can watch along with us on Netlfix.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.
