Episode 124: SLCC bound

Good Monday Morning (or whenever it is you are listening to this) to you all and welcome back for this brief but still just as good episode of Sprecken ze Geek.  This last week was a busy one for both Bat and myself and we decided that with Salt Lake City Comic Con on the horizon we would take a little breather from news.  We both discuss our costumes and plans for SLCC as well as plans following the con and our streaming review of Joe.

This weeks streaming suggestion, and 3rd movie in our month of Cage, was Joe. Both Bat and myself agreed that this movie felt very incomplete.  There are quite a few hanging threads that just left the whole movie feeling unfinished and a bit of a mess.  Bat put it best when he said that this movie could have done with a once over by a good editor to bring the movie in a bit more and make a tighter story.  I thought this one reminded me of one of our previous streaming suggestions, Mud, but I enjoyed that one.  This movie got a 2/5 stars from myself and Bat gave it 3/5.  As with all of these movies so far, this one is not something that needs to be seen and your time can be best spent elsewhere.

Next weeks streaming suggestion comes from myself and it's the 4th and final movie in our month of Cage.  The Frozen Ground has the start of our month teaming up with John Cusack to tackle a killer, or is Cusack the killer?  Guess we're going to find out soon.  Watch the trailer, join in on the torture... again...or don't and maybe do something better with your time.  The choice is, as always, yours.

Episode 123: We should have Left this one Behind

Hello all and welcome back to another Cage-a-licious episode of Sprecken ze Geek.  We continue the ill-begotten month of Nicholas Cage movies.  This week we review the bad movie of choice, Left Behind.  Though we kind of forget about doing the streaming review till the very end of the episode, i guess you could say we almost left you ...hanging.  You thought I was going to make another bad Left Behind pun didn't you?  Too bad, so sad.  Besides the streaming review we skip our theatrical review, not too much out there I can motivate Bat to go see.  But we do have a decent amount of nerd news including: Jessica Jones trailer released, Ronda Rousey in Roadhouse remake, mobile app Pokemon Go, Uncharted 4 release date, Apple TV to focus on gaming and Epix and Netflix movie deal comes to an end.   We also take a moment to have a like B&H bullshit where Bat discusses his time with the Mad Max game and I give my review of Man from U.N.C.L.E. as well as audiobook, The Martian.

Our second installment in this months Cage-a-thon is Left Behind.  Man... this movie.  So I've read a good portion of the books, mainly because i'm fascinated by the Apocalypse, and for the most part there is some pretty good non-fiction fun to be had.  But this movie is so bad that I will call the Kirk Cameron travesty a better movie.  Now Bat actually said for the most part he didn't mind the movie as much and he most certainly didn't share my impassioned hatred for it.  But lets break it down kiddos, this full length movie is just the beginning (like maybe first 3-4 chapters) of the book.  There's no real ending it just ... stops.  But it stops in a way that you're left expecting the "in our next episode" tagline.  I don't know why they laser focused on just this part of the book when there is a whole lot more interesting things going on in the world... sigh. I could go on one of those "the books better than the movie" rants but I'll hold off for the podcast.  For now and just move on with the rating.  I gave it 1 star, wish I could go lower, and Bat admirably gave it 2 stars.  Really you aren't missing much of anything if you skip this one, which we figured, so please go watch something better.

Next weeks streaming suggestion comes from Bat and is the 3rd in our month of Cage.  This one neither of us heard of before, so that means it's got to be good, and is simply called Joe. Watch the trailer, join in on the torture... or don't and maybe do something better with your time.  The choice is yours.

Episode 122: I'm more of an Emperor Protector

Welcome back yall!  Here's another 2 shows in a row.  I only mention this fact because we've been a little on and off over the past 2 months due to many adventures by both Bat and I.  Which, just as a forewarning, we will probably be missing another episode or two due to a very busy September for us.  But in the mean time this week we are treated to the first movie in a Month of Cage.  It started out as a joke and then escalated rather quickly into a month long bad Cage movie-thon... this is going to be fun.  First we bring you our streaming review of the Manikin Skywalker and Nick Cage movie, Outcast.  On top of that we also discuss the Force Friday toy release, Megaman movie possible with Fox, Halo 5 intro movie, Chris Evans on returning as Captain America and some behind the scenes drama at Marvel Studios.

As stated last episode back on Episode 106 we decided to put a bet on Antman's domestic gross and we both lost.  There is video proof on our Facebook page for all of you to view and enjoy.  Take heed, ice cold Smirnoff Ice is the devil.

This Week's dynamic duo of Hayden Christenson and Nicolas Cage brought us the special little movie called Outcast.  Hayden hasn't really been known for grade A acting and Cage has been notoriously bad, especially as of late.  Neither of these disappointed, well the did but not in the normal matter.  To put it blandly this is bad. Acting wise, cinematography, action wise, story wise... the list goes on and on.  Again this movie is not good and I think both of us want to make a new game of naming movies that are rated better than Fantastic Four but are waaaaay worse.  This is one of them.  I gave it 2/5 stars (generous) and Bat gave it an honest 1/5.  Don't waste your time unless you enjoy VERY bad movies that guest star Cage.

Next weeks streaming suggestion comes from myself and is the 2nd in our month of Cage.  This time we are 'treating' ourselves to the religious remake, Left Behind.  Oh this ones gonna be bad so be forewarned.   Watch the trailer and be mortified or very curious... we're a little of both again.

Here's a good link to the Star Wars Force Friday toy release by IGN in case you want to make it rain like Old Ben.

Also if you want to see the wonderfully ridiculousness that is the Halo 5 introduction cinematic check it out below.

And if you haven't seen it yet, here is the first of the series that was created by Monty Oum called Dead Fantasy.  If you watch through the series I think you'll see some parallels to the bombastic action.

Here are the answers to last weeks Podquestion of which game franchise do you think needs an open world game?

Bat                    The Punisher
Hammer            Dyansty Warriors Gundam
