Episode 121: Fass Ass

Welcome back everyone to another episode of Sprecken ze Geek.   We are now both back and ready to talk! No theatrical review this week but we do discuss last episodes streaming review of The Guest and then dive right into this weeks Nerd News: Lionsgate making a Borderlands movie, First images of Michael Fassbender's outfit from Assassins Creed movie, Suicide Squad wraps filming, Metal Gear 5 and lament Star Wars spoilers (without really talking about them... because we hate spoilers).

We also do our Summer movie wrap up from the list we put together on Episode 104. This is where we go over all the movies we did and didn't see and give our closing thoughts.

Final tally and cost of each of our movie watching season. Cost is calculated with average $9 ticket price
                    Total Movies Watched             Cost
Bat                        10                                    $90
Hammer                14                                    $126

Also back on Episode 106 we decided to put a bet on Antman's domestic gross as laid out below

Just so we have it in writing dear listeners here is our SzG Hammer vs Bat Smirnoff Ice Bet.  Bat predicts that Ant-Man will be Marvels  first "flop" while I protest that it will be an equal success at least to other Movies.  We came to our estimated Box Office amounts by looking at past movies and Bat is saying that the movie will make less than $150 million while I'm saying that it will make $180 million.  We're counting this only for it's theatrical run and domestic only.   The stakes?  We're using "Bros Icing Bros" as the basis for our "rewards."  If Bat wins I shall chug a Smirnoff Ice (flavor of his choice) on bended knee and if I win he will do the same.  Now If it's in between the two then we will have a chug off.  All of this will be posted on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.  So let the best (me) man win!

Needless to say we both lost with Antman's current (and for the matter of this bed we will call it Final) Domestic Gross is sitting at 161 Milion.  There was video proof taken and it will be posted as soon as the Webmistress gets the video to us (funny enough we mention how that was a bad idea on this episode).

For this weeks streaming review we watched The Guest which was suggested by listener Kristi.  For this movie we both went in with no expectations and came out with mixed reactions.  The movie is far from great but there are some bits of promise here.  Sadly, neither of us felt that it ever really panned out.  It felt like the movie was trying to be two things and we both agreed that it should have stuck with the idea that he was a disturbed drifter/discharged soldier.  The 'sci-fi' twist felt rushed and just ruined the momentum of the movie.  We both gave it a hesitant 3 out of 5 stars and warn anyone who ventures into the movie to possibly look elsewhere.

Next weeks streaming suggestion comes from Bat's wife Sarah.  This time we are treated to the 'wonderful' acting duo of Hayden Christenson and Nicolas Cage in Outcast.  Watch the trailer and be either mortified or very curious... we're a little of both.

Episode 120: Fantastic Four meets the Internet Hate Train, choo choo

Welcome back everyone to another episode of Sprecken ze Geek.   We were on such a roll with two weeks on time that we thought we deserved a week off... it was totally planned and everything.  But here we are back and in full force as well bring you a spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Fantastic Four as well as a quickie review of Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation.  We also discuss last episodes streaming review of Hercules before we dig into this weeks Nerd News: Sesame Street coming to HBO, DC Powerless
TV show announced, Games Comm Announcements, Constantine coming to Arrow, Black Panther Stunt suit, Beetle Juice 2, Hateful 8 trailer, Westworld teaser for HBO, and Some early D23 news.

For this weeks streaming review we watched the Rock's Hercules.  Right out of the gate we both weren't really expecting much.  I personally thought it was a perfectly OK action movie and gave it 3/5 stars, nothing great about it and no rush to see it.  But Bat took many issues with it in terms of acting/CG/story and just over predictability, he gave it 2/5 stars.  Although our scores are different I totally understand and agree with Bat on most all of his points.  This movie is not good, it's okay at best, but it is easily forgettable.  I loved  the approach of essentially doing what the Clive Owen King Arthur movie did to the Arthurian legend but with Hercules.  But overall this movie felt like an unfinished and unrealized concept of a good movie.  Skip it or see it, you won't be missing too much either way.

Next weeks streaming suggestion comes from listener Kristi, she previously suggested Grave Encounters for an earlier episode.  The Guest is a movie neither of us have heard of before but it looks to have some good ratings online so we're both looking forward going into this one blind and seeing what we get.

Episode 119: Gone Vacation

Welcome back everyone to another on time edition of Sprecken ze Geek.   That makes it two in a row!  I'm so proud.  This week we bring you a review of Vacation, along with my review of Train Wreck.  Both of these are spoiler free mainly because we didn't want to ruin the jokes for Vacation and Train Wreck was only seen by myself.  We also bring you our streaming review of Gone Girl, nerd news including Jena Malone casting rumors, Chris Pine in Wonder Woman, Voting coming to future PS plus games, Channing Tatum leaving Gambit followed by True Detective season 1 episode 6 review.

For this weeks streaming review we watched Gone Girl (or as I called it Gone Baby, Gone).  Besides knowing it involved a missing wife and Ben Affleck we both went into this one pretty blind.  And I can say that I'm rather glad that we did as this movie is intense.  There were plenty of chances that this movie could have been spoiled but we both had been pretty lucky.  I think we both came out of this one thinking that we (meaning me) should be careful dating... like holy shit this movie could give you trust issues.  But we both really enjoyed it and rated it on our Netflix scale (since HBO doesn't have one) with Bat giving it 4/5 and I gave it 5/5.  Definitely give this one a watch.

Next up, we continue our queue clearing rush with Hercules staring the Rock.  Out of the two Herc movies that came out that year this one looked the best as well as it seems to focus on his labors.  Here's hoping that we're in for some fun action.
