Episode 118: Pixelated Wolf

Welcome back everyone to a surprisingly on time edition of Sprecken ze Geek.   This was what we life to call a slow news week which means you're getting quite a bit more blab from the Bat and myself.  This week we give half a review of Pixels, a full review of our streaming movie,  discuss the rule of "third titles", get a little deep and wrap it up with the True Detective season 1 episode 5 review.

For this weeks streaming review we were finally able to watch The Wolf of Wall Street.  Keeping it short and sweet (definitely not like the movie) we both liked it.  Bat really enjoyed it and gave it a 5/5 stars (rare, I know) while I gave it 3/5.  We both agreed that 3 hours was a bit much and that there were more than a few scenes that could have been trimmed to some extent.  But Leo's acting in this one is steller and worth the watch alone.  The movie is just one hell of a roller coaster ride of WTF and did you see that coupled with more drugs that a Hunter S. Thompson novel and Scarface combined. So one way or another give this one a chance and sit back for the ride,

Next week we're going to go a bit more serious with Gone Girl (or as I called it Gone Baby, Gone).  This movie can be found on HBOgo.

Episode 117: The Ant-tastic Four

Welcome back everyone to another delayed edition of Sprecken ze Geek.   Remember that whole life lesson I talked about a couple of months ago, you know the one about remembering to save your work?  Well I had to learn it again... learning sucks sometimes.  But I like to think that your're getting a better product by me being much more awake this time.  Well that's my hope anyways.

This week we are joined by our friends TK and Terry as we review Antman, a movie I've been really excited (an worried) about for some time.  We also do a SDCC recap along with a bit of a trailer review and wrap it all up with True Detective season 1 episode 4 review.

We also review our last streaming review choice of Rose Water. Now I had originally thought that this was a documentary but it is actually a movie based on true events.  Over all we both enjoyed this one with Bat giving it 4/5 and myself giving it 3/5 on Netflix.  Funny enough the parts involving the main character in solitary, which the parts that I thought we're the weaker ones, were the ones that Bat enjoyed the most.  Over all we both recommend this movie for anyone wanting an interesting glimpse into a repetitively foreign world to most Americans as well as being based on events that happened fairly recently.

For next weeks streaming review we dive back in time and take a second swing at watching The Wolf of Wall Street.  You may, or may not, remember when we tried to watch this a couple of months back using the EpixHD streaming app and failed miserably.  Well it's on Netflix now and we want to watch this movie that everyone is talking about.  Bat more so for Margo Robbie than anyone else.

While only 2 out of the 4 trailers that we talked about have officially been released we would be remiss if we didn't link the two that did below.

First up is the amazing second trailer to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  We both agree that we don't want to see anything more from this movie, we are both completely sold and ready to be taken on this journey.

The second one is the one we've both been extremely curious about.  Suicide Squad's first trailer breaks onto the scene and just proves how and why we should be excited for this movie.  I'm honestly looking forward to Margo Robbie's version of Harley the most but can't wait to see how this whole movie comes together or how the team falls apart.

Here are the answers to last weeks Podquestion of what lego set do you want to see created that doesn't already exists?
Bat                    Darkness from Legend
Hammer            Stargate
Mando              Scale Gundams
TK                     Mon Calamari Class Cruiser from Star Wars
Terry                 Power Rangers Mega Zord

For next weeks Podquestion Bat asks is the worst sequel that you've ever seen?

Episode 116: PHXCC 2015 Live Panel

Welcome back everyone to this weeks delayed edition of Sprecken ze Geek.  While we recover from SDCC we took the weekend off of recording so we're bringing out our live recorded panel from Phoenix Comic Con 2015.  This was our first attempt at doing things a little different for our panel and we were quite pleased with the results.  The panel was about what would you change about some of the existing comic book movies to make them better as well as pitching your ideas for comic book movies (and a bit of TV shows) going forward.  We had a pretty good turnout and even a better fan interaction which really just made it pure fun.  Again thanks to everyone who made the panel a wonderful geeky time and for encouraging us to do more of these.

Since we're taking a break from all the normal stuff that means you have another week to send us your reviews of last weeks streaming review of Rose Water.

Also if you have suggestions for next weeks streaming review please sent them to us using any of the means below.

Episode 115: Those Damn Time Traveling Robots

Welcome back everyone to this weeks edition of Sprecken ze Geek.  This week we review Terminator: Genisys, our streaming review of Nightcrawler, discuss what we're looking forward to at this years San Diego Comic Con and review season 1 episode 3 of True Detective.  As always we will give you a spoiler free review of Terminator with a spoiler filled review at the end of the show followed by the True Detective episode spoiler review.

This week we also review last weeks streaming suggestion of Nightcrawler.  We both really enjoyed this crazy ride of a movie.  Jake Gyllenhaal's performance really is stellar and down right creepy.  Though Bat would have liked it to go on 20 mins or more to see the 'end' of the story I actually enjoyed this movie as it was.  I basically viewed it as a villain movie, one where we get to see the bad guy essentially win.  How he does and what he does is truly unnerving and it makes for a hell of an interesting watch when you think about the drought of original movies.  I gave it 4/5 and Bat gave it 3/5 but we both highly recommend this movie to any and all.

Next week's streaming review of Rose Water comes from my own queue and can be found on Netflix.  Jon Stewart took time off of the Daily Show to direct this movie inspired by actual events.  I called it a documentary on the podcast but it's a bit more of a dramatization but I'm still looking forward to this watch.

As always if you want to send us some suggestions for our next streaming review or even your review of this weeks choice please send it to us using the method of your choice below.

Here are the two trailer cuts we mention in the podcast.  The first one is what I would deem a perfect tease (though a bit long) of the movie.  Saw this one and was perfectly fine to be on board for the movie.  Then there is the second one that only Bat saw before the movie and we both (now that I've seen the movie and the trailer) agree that it gave away just too much.  Watch the first one by all means but be warry of the second one for spoilers.  We think its best to watch it after the movie.

Trailer #1- okay to watch

Trailer #2-  **spoiler ridden** , you have been warned
