Episode 114: Meow Missiles

Welcome back everyone to this weeks edition of Sprecken ze Geek.  With no movies of interest for us and pretty slow news day we decided it would be a great time to bring back the Geek Roundtable!  This week we are joined by Sarah and TK as we delve into our thoughts on who we'd marry, awkward dating experiences, awkward convention experiences as well as what costumes we're looking forward to making this year.  You will have to pardon the rather large amount of "Meows" this episode as we kind of dive a bit into my dating life and also say somethings we shouldn't.  But if this crazy show is as fun to listen to as it was to edit then I think you're in for a few laughs.

This week we also review last weeks streaming suggestion of Ask Me Anything.  No one ever likes to say a movie is bad, but really this movie is BAD.  If you take production and music out of the picture there really isn't all too much redeemable about it.  It has big name actors but it really feels like it squanders their potential.  The main character really doesn't give us anything to empathize with her and it just left me wish it was over quicker.  Even the "M. Night" twist like ending of the story just didn't grab me.  We gave this movie a 2 out of 5 stars and highly recommend that you all stay far away from it.

Next week's streaming review of Nightcrawler comes care of Bat's Heterolifemate and can be found on Netflix.  We have heard a ton about Jake Gyllenhaal's performance in this movie so we are both super psych-o'ed for this one. So why not join in this new adventure.

E3 2015 Day 1 Wrap Up

Hooooly Shit guys it's been a big day for Video Games guys and here's the low down on the big 4 Press Conferences today.  While this isn't everything it is everything that piqued my interest.

Over all I have to say I feel like Microsoft's conference was stronger this year and if it weren't for that Final Fantasy VII trailer and the Horizon Zero Dawn game play I'd have been severely disappointed in Sony.

The Hammer Picks of the day go to Microsoft's Halolens demo and the Final Fantasy VII trailer.  What were your high points for today's showings?  Let us know in the comments below or at one of these links.
Facebook, Twitter or email us at Batandhammer@gmail.com

Microsoft
Halo Guardians- all I gotta say is Buck is back baby!

Fallout 4- POWER ARMOR! and you get to play before the fallout!

Gears of War 4- New Cogs, Same Battle... and I'm okay with that

Rise of the Tomb Raider- More Lara and I'm totally happy with that

Halolens Demo with Minecraft- Holy shit this gets me all kinds of excited

Some other awesomeness from Xbox

  • Xbox One backwards Combatibility with 360 games (100 at launch)
  • New Elite Controller puts other controllers to shame I guess
  • Game Overview lets you play indie games that are in development

Sony

Horizon Zero Dawn- Probably one of the coolest new IPs

Shenmue 3- well not really but it's a kickstarter that's already 2/3 of the way there

Uncharted 4: A Thieves End- Drake and Sully are back to their crazy shenanigans

Final Fantasy VII Remake- Ohhhhh  fuck yes, no other words

Other news for Sony
  • Street Fighter V- for PS4 only... yay?
  • Call of Duty DLC coming to PS4 first
  • Also Playstation Vue getting individual TV Channel Subscriptions. Rolling out in San Fran and Los Angeles including these channels: Showtime, HBO, Fox Soccer and a Channel powered by Machinima

EA

Mirrors Edge Catalyst- the motion sickness might be worth it

Star Wars Old Republic Knights of the Fallen Empire- God damn they make great intros

Star Wars Battle Front - Need I say more?  well I guess I do.  Awesome... want it now

Mass Effect Andromeda- subtle tease but even gets me, a non fan, excited to see what's next

Ubisoft

South Park: the Fractured but the Whole- Can't like this enough, more of the first one with better frame rate please!

For Honor- I really don't know what to make of this one but it looks like Medieval co-op awesome

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon- really reminds me of Far Cry in a good way

That's all for today,  Looking forward to tomorrow!

Episode 112: Dinosaur Park

Welcome back everyone to this weeks edition of Sprecken ze Geek.  The summer movies keep on coming and this weeks review is a Brontosaurus of a movie, Jurassic World. I would have used Mammoth but , you know... wrong time period.  Anyways, we were excited for this one just on name alone and if box office is any indication we weren't the only ones.  We provide you both a spoiler free review and a spoiler filled review of the movie.

This weeks nerd news includes: Jon Bernthal being cast as Punisher in Daredevil season 2, oh yeah and we're getting Daredevil season 2, Gamefly offering a streaming game service, Oculus Rift release, Halo 5 details, Dishonored 2 announced, Doom game play and Fallout 4 release date.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge the fine work and loss of a legend as this last week saw the passing of the great Christopher Lee.  Rest in peace good sir, you will be fondly remembered

Last weeks suggestion from Bat himself was Sex Ed.  Haley Joel Osment is a virgin Sex Ed teacher... yup that's the movie in a nut shell.  Not saying it is bad, but it's far from great.  It had a few laughs but over all it felt like it was trying too hard to be weird and just fell flat. While neither of us hate it we also find it hard to recommend it to others.  There are better things to spend your time on besides this movie.  We both gave it 3 out of 5 stars on Netflix.

Out next streaming suggestion comes from Bat's wife and it is called Barefoot and can be found on Netflix.  We know next to nothing about this one besides what the trailer shows us below.

Mando        Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Action figure with Gigadrill

Episode 111: A Fault in our San Andreas

Welcome back to all of our returning listeners and greetings to all of our new listeners from this years Phoenix Comic Con.  We had a wonderful audience for our live panel on Thursday and just wanted to say thank you for all who came and especially for those who participated.  You all seriously were a part of one of our favorite Con memories this year.  Phew it was a hell of a weekend and we have some stories to tell.  Since we're getting back into the mode of things we decided to hit up another theatrical release, this time we went and saw San Andreas.  Now normally we offer a spoiler free to start off with and a spoiler filled review at the end of the podcast but we really didn't feel the need for a spoiler filled review.  Beyond giving our thoughts on San Andreas and going over PHXCC we also delve a bit into this weeks nerd news, some Hammer's Free Shit Good Shit and end it all with our spoiler filled review of Episodes 7 & 8 of Game of Thrones.

No streaming review from last week but we have next weeks suggestion from Bat himself, Sex Ed.  The basics of the movie seem to have Haley Joel as a Virgin Sex Ed teacher.  Beyond that I'm going in blind on this one.  But we will have our review of this streaming review on next weeks podcast
