Episode 55: Geeking out with the Tortuga Twins

This week we throw format to the wind and just have a damn good time geeking out with the Scaramouche, Raphael & D’Angelo of the Tortuga Twins. Or as you and I will better get to know them as Ronn, Riki & Jef.  We answer some of your questions, delve into Tortuga History and run on nerdy tangents ranging from D & D character names to rating each Star Trek series in order of importance. There were many laughs to be had and we had an absolute blast talking with these guys.   We would like thank them for offering up their time to come on down and record this extra long podcast at the Batcave with us.

Episode 54: Roboflop vs Floppybird

We are back and with a movie review to boot! Both Bat and I weigh in on the Robocop remake with our spoiler-free and spoiler-ific(found at 55:00) reviews.  We also delve into the news for nerds with Jim Gordon's casting, a Hammer Re-"Vision", No Smith in ID4...2, Red Shirts being adapted to TV by FX, Clone Wars last season finds a home, Leonard Nimoy's health and South Park: tSoT going Gold.  We jam in our topic of the week of the saga of "Flappy Bird" along with our question of the week answer for "Favorite Disaster Porn Movie."  We wrap it all up with what we're watching and playing. Normally we try to off set our Question of the Week and our What we're watching segments every other episode but we are jamming it all into one so that we can make a very special announcement.

It is as official as can be, we are having all 3 of the Tortuga Twins on next weeks episode of SzG.  Haven't heard of them?  Well we recommend checking out their website TortugaTwins.com  to get a hint, or even better yet go and visit the Arizona Renaissance Festival going on till March 30th and watch one of their shows.  I don't think you will be disappointed.  Bat and I are very excited to sit down with these three and wanted to open up the floor to any questions you dear listener might have for the Twins.  Please be sure to let us know by Thursday preferably or at the very latest this Friday at 4pm.

Now on with the show

This Week we reviewed the 2014 remake of Robocop.  To keep it simple I'm just posting or quick reviews here.  But we plan on doing more written reviews in the future. If you want to know more about our reasons be sure to listen to the podcast.

Bat says:  Wait for Streaming and Rental.  The movie just left him after the credits rolled, nothing really stuck to make it worth trekking out to the theater.

Hammer says: See it in the Theater.  Although far from perfect (too many 'villains' and Robocop wasn't really the focus) there was still touches of greatness that make for an enjoyable theater experience.

Here is a trailer for reference:

Our Topic this week was Flappy bird.  I'm calling it now that within the year we will hear about some sort of movie/documentary adaptation to this crazy shit storm.  If you haven't followed the story so far here is a pretty good Mashable article that pretty much sums it all up.   Neither Bat or I really cared for the game but the story surrounding it and the community reactions make for some pretty fun reading.  What do you think about the whole rise and fall of the game?

Here's the answer we received via Facebook, as well as our own  from last weeks Question of the Week with "What is your favorite Disaster-porn movie?"  Looks like the runaway winner was Armageddon.

Bat:
Armageddon
Hammer:
Independence Day
Fanboy:
Armageddon
Josh:
Armageddon

For the next SzG Question of the Week we ask you to give us any questions you may have for the Tortuga Twins.  Make sure to get your answers in for us before February 21st.

Catch us next week, same Bat channel same Hammer time.

Episode 53: Black-up Bluray

Hammer brings you his spoiler-free review of "The Lego Movie" and the slightly dynamic duo talk 2 weeks worth of nerd news regarding Super Bowl Trailers, Tarantino's Hateful Eight, Boba Fett movie rumors, Evangeline Lilly cast in Antman,Paul Betenly as Vision, Rockin Green Lantern rumors, Eisenberg and Irons cast in BvS, Xbox rumors, Massive Eve battle report.  We also have another loaded edition of "Free Shit, Good Shit" and what we're watching and playing.

Can you tell I was a little more rushed this week?  You can't? Well then, forget I even mentioned it.  Here is the link to this weeks edition of Free Shit, Good Shit.

We've also included the most recent episode via the embedded link below

Here are the 3 trailers from the Super Bowl that we really dug into(and an extra new Captain America Trailer).

Amazing Spider Man 2

I feel like I've already seen this trailer.  They already showed their hand, in my opinion, and this trailer really didn't bring much new to the table

Capatain America: This Winter Soldier

Now this one we both agree really hit the spot, this should have been the first trailer that was shown.  Simple and awesome,  Enjoy!

Transformers 4: Age of Extintion

I wasn't really impressed at all with this but Bat, among many others, are all head over heels for Grimlock!  What do you think?

Before we get on with the Question of the week I bring you the Massive Eve Battle Report:

As we talked about this week, there was a HUGE battle in Eve Online this month that recieved nation news coverage.  Here is a great community article detailing the total damage and below there is some footage from the battle.

Here's the answer we received via Facebook, as well as our own  from last weeks Question of the Week with "What fictional time travel device would you choose?"  We are sorry but we lost the Facebook thread that had most all of everyone's answers so besides mine and Bat's we are just going to list the answers.

Bat:
The Space Ship   from "Flight of the Navigator"
Hammer:
Vortex Manipulator from "Doctor Who"

Other answers:
TARDIS                from "Doctor Who" (we must have had 6 of these answers)
Delorean              from "Back to the Future"  (This was another popular choice)
Time Turner         from "Harry Potter" (we forgot to mention this one on the podcast)
Time Machine      from "Meet the Robinsons"

For the next SzG Question of the Week we ask  "What is your favorite Disaster-porn movie?"  Make sure to get your answers in for us before February 21st.

Catch us next week, same Bat channel same Hammer time.

Nerds on Cock... tails: Batman cocktail

No new episode this week as I was taken down this weekend by that hellish flu from god knows where.  But instead we bring you a few goodies to tide you over till next weekend.  We start off with our very first video in a series we are calling "Nerds on Cock...tails."    We hope you enjoy our first wack at a edited video, please do tell us what you like/dislike and any suggestions for future drink and topic pairings.  I would also like to give a HUGE shout-out to our lovely Webmistress for taking the reigns and doing all of the editing and set up.

This first episode has us tasting the Batman Cocktail (from Everydaydrinkers ) while discussing the Bale Bat Trilogy.

We also have an abbreviated edition of "Free Shit, Good Shit" for you.  This edition ranges from February's PSPlus free games, Xbox Games for Gold and Humblebundle sales(updated).

Playstation has announce this months  6 offerings for Plus:

Playstation 4:

Outlast

Playstation 3:

Remember Me

Metro: Last Light

PayDay 2

Playstation Vita:

Street Fighter X Tekken

ModNation Racers: Road Trip

Xbox has also announced their 2 Games for Gold:

Dead Island:  Available from Feb. 1 – 16

Toy Soldiers: Cold War: Available from Feb. 16 – 28

As Always I also want to pay homage to my good friends over at humble bundle.  You still have 15 hours (at the time of this writing) to grab that awesome deal for their audio book bundle.  It includes Piers Anthony's "On a Pale Horse" that I mentioned in our question of the week back on Episode 49.  They also have the weekly sale with Codemasters going on for another 2 days if that's more your style.

***EDIT as of 2/4/14 @ 4:30pm***
Well the audiobook bundle is gone and done, but in its place is a hell of a great replacement.  The Sid Meier Bundle is now live!  You have the ability, nay the obligation, to purchase Civ 3 Complete, 4 Complete, and 5 with 1 DLC pack for a measly 7$.  Heck why stop there, pay 8$ more and you get the newest DLC expansion for Civ 5 as well...  Why are you still reading this?  Seriously kids, these games are wonderful time sinks and I personally can not wait to get into Civ 5.

Phew, that's a whole lot of good stuff there friends.  Hope you great week and we will see you next Monday!
